Welcome to Code Monkey Island, the board game designed to teach players of all ages computer science logic! As the wise leader of your own tribe of monkeys, it's up to you to guide all three of your monkeys safely around the board and into the banana grove. You'll have to use concepts like conditional statements, looping, booleans, assignment operators and more to earn moves for your monkeys, dodge quicksand traps, and score some delicious fruit along the way! After its successful Kickstarter campaign, Code Monkey Island is being used in thousands of homes and classrooms around the world, helping children and adults alike discover the magic and fun of coding.

Does not teach programming concepts
While this is a fun game to play, and is quite similar to Sorry, the connections to programming are very poor. There are some basic programming fundamentals that are explained in the manual, but the connection to the game are very loose. Essentially you can rationalize programming concepts to just about any board game, but that doesn't mean the game itself teaches programming. In fact, I think this game does nothing to teach programming. You must keep forcing the connections, they are not intuitively part of the game and I don't think any of these programming concepts are transferrable to another setting. If you are looking for a board game that introduces programming concepts I recommend Codemaster.I am a technology director and programming teacher at a K-8 school.

Fun game in the right crowd
I really wanted to like the game. We broke it out over thanksgiving. The 10+ year olds seem to get the hang of it, but the kids younger weren't following. We ended up playing in pairs of 2, one kid and one adult.I think the first problem is the cards are wordy. Also the game directions say to deal 3 cards, but that became harder for the kids to follow. A better approach was to deal 2 cards and let them choose between the two and if neither worked they would deal 2 more.If you have a patient kid that likes to read they may enjoy the game OR if you have a big group and you can get kids to work together it can be fun. I would play it again in a big group.

The kids love playing it (and so do I)
I bought this game to use with a Coding Club with 3rd-5th graders. The kids love playing it (and so do I). It isn't heavy on learning coding but more on understanding Boolean operators and conditions statements. When you play with two players, it is maybe a 20-30 minute game even though the box says an hour.

Great game, even for adults
Great game, even for adults. The computer programmer in the family did have to explain to us how this game, very similar to Sorry!, related to programming, but it's good to set the stage for If/Then statements and logical thinking.

Crap crap crap
Crap crap crap. Kids and adults tried but couldn’t enjoy this and now it’s taking up much precious space. Crap.

Challenging
My family and I had a hard time learning the game so I never tried it with my students.

My 8 year old loves this!
My 8 yr old loves this game! He caught on to the strategy right away. His older sister, his father and I have played several games with him and he beats us every time. This game contains a fine written explanation of how to write code too. Highly educational and very fun game.

Fun non-computer technology game
Great for all age students. Perfect to have on hand to teach coding. I try to keep on hand activities for when the power goes out and this kept the 4th graders very interested.
