Very good resource for a beginner
Very good resource for a beginner. One thing I did not like so much is the fact that they decided to put a very detailed installation instructions at the beginning of the book. When I say installation I mean various combinations (native, SP integrated, clean install, upgrade etc etc etc). While that information is necessary and helpful, maybe they could have put only basic info on how to download and setup a clean development environment, and push all other stuff to the end.If you are like me and like to read a book from cover to cover and wish to dive into stuff (making reports in this case) as soon as possible, this arrangement is not ideal. That said, the book is very informative. I bought it after listening to the author's excellent Pluralsight courses, and wanted some additional info.

Better than endless searching with step by step examples
Great reference. SSRS is one of the toughest to learn products Microsoft makes with all sorts of non intuitive clicking in what would seem to be simple task. This book helps show the "safe" path saving hours of agony and searching. The examples are good as well. My only criticism is that it could use more screen shots. As a product that has had several iterations a book is a better way to gain experience and avoid the it doesn't work that way anymore problem.

Good addition to my reference shelf!
Well written, though a bit dense. I have so far been able to find everything I need. Good addition to my reference shelf!

Not starting off well
I am on page xxxi and I am referred to a website to download examples. I go to the website and expect to find info on how to download SSRS2012Samples.zip. However when you click on the link it takes you to a Microsoft SQL server website and the file SSRS2012Samples.zip is no where to be found. Not a good way to start.I sent a complaint to MS Press and they fixed the problem. But the book doesn't sibe with the link.As I have worked my way through the book there are many glaring problems with the examples and I am unable to duplicate the results. Don't buy the book.

The book covers the material well and I have been able to update myself to the 2012 / 2014 version of SSRS for a current project comfortably over a couple of weeks.
