Thule 884 Roll Model Kayak Roof Rack Mount Carrier

Another high quality product from Thule.This is very easy to use.I don't believe the roller is completely necessary, so if you're on a budget, the one without the roller should do just fine. The carpet stuff that is on the rear bracket slides very easily on the kayak.

Nice rack, but will not fit the Thule Xsporter so I returned it to get another Thule product. Would be nice if Thule could make an adapter for the Xsporter!

I recently got a pair of the Thule 884 Roll Model Kayak Carriers. These things make loading and unloading our two 19-foort tandem kayaks much easier. It use to be a struggle for 2-3 people to load/unload our boats. now i can do it single-handedly if needed. I did have an issue with some missing parts on one of the units but acouple of email with Thule got that resolved and I quickly got replacement parts. these raks are a bit expensive but overall they may taking the boats much easier.

Thule markets the 884 Roll Model Kayak Carrier as usable on the factory crossbars of the Nissan Xterra, with the additional purchase of the Thule XAdapt 3 kit, which consists of longer bolts. (I'm looking at the information provided with my newly purchased 884 Roll Model Kayak Carrier as I type, which again tells me this helpful information).Not so. The XAdapt 3 kit will serve to install the front saddles, but will not enable installation of the rear saddles or the roller bar. Trust me, I've tried.If you have a Nissan Xterra (or indeed, if you are depending on the XAdapt 3 kit to install this carrier on any larger-than-Thule factory crossbars) be aware.Bummer.

Dented my kayak after traveling a rough road. To be fair, my tandem Hobie kayak exceeds the 70 lb limit; but it is tough to find saddles that are rated higher. I like the the front saddles, and will continue to use them. The rear saddles are too flexible, putting all the force at the center, but may be fine with light kayak The roller is a bit stiff, and should probably be lubed to work better. See my review of the Yakima Mako.

This is exactly what i expected. works perfect for me. It makes loading my 12ft kayak on to my FJ Cruiser very easy. (ONLY WORKS WITH SQUARE BARS). Delivery was on time and package was in good condition.

Due to an increasingly bad lower back, the days of squat-lifting a 60 lb kayak up onto a "J" type roof carrier are over! Although my Honda Pilot has a really tall roof, it is easier to lift the bow of kayak up onto roll bar and push it up and onto the saddles. Very smooth and easy operation! Looking forward to my June Outer Banks kayaking trip and be able to hit a number of spots per day without worrying about the strain on my back!

Better description of the product and what particular size cross-bars it fits would behelpful. A few modifications and it works. The rear holders need to be bigger to support a wider kayak. Works well but I believe there's a better kayak carrier for the price.

We have been Thule users for years so when the need for a kayak carrier that was easy to load/unload by myself came up the choice was an easy one for me to make. First of all, this kayak rack can only be mounted on Thule (or another brand with the same size) square bars. Installation was a breeze on our Jeep Commander which is a fairly tall vehicle. There are a few different sizes/lengths of screws so care is needed to assure they are all used in the correct places. Using the rack is a real pleasure. Just lift the front of your boat onto the roller being careful the rear doesn't slip backwards along the ground, pick up the rear of the boat and push it up onto the rack. I find that I need to go to the front of the boat for final positioning as the non slip holders there make it difficult to move the boat around from the back. I've found that the rack can be adjusted to carry a kayak right side up or upside down, though you'll likely need another person to load and unload it while upside down. True, Thule products are somewhat expensive but you do get what you pay for and will likely never have to replace or repair a Thule product because of age or wear. Our rack bars are on their third vehicle and the pedestals on the Jeep are 10 years old and are still just fine. I highly recommend this rack for the solo paddler or anyone who needs to load and unload a kayak alone and with the minimum of effort.
