I give it one star because it the Can converter is a good idea but...
I think this product is a good idea but I DO NOT recommend the R1 kit. It is supposedly for fixtures weighing 5 lbs or less but this contraption only secures to the can by a screw in mechanism (like a light bulb) and a small metal piece that attaches to the side of the can. The problem is that there is flexibility in the mechanism that bends and gives so that you can't get a snug attachment of your fixture to the ceiling. The fixture we are installing is less than 5 pounds but it's too heavy to keep the dumb thing from bending. Already we've spent 2 hours on the installation but now we are off to Home Depot to see if we can find another bracket to attach to the can to support the mechanism. Oh...and we didn't find out that it wouldn't tighten all the way (due to the give in the mechanism) until AFTER we fought with the machine screws to get them into the holes of the fixture...again because the stupid thing bends. Had to use string to guide the machine screws to the holes. Total disappointment! I'd return to the seller if I didn't need it now.Update: I’ve changed my initial review from 1 star to 4 because after much effort and nearly 6 hours of installation time (not exaggerating) I have realized that the problem lies more with the can light canister itself than the can converter screw in mechanism. I still don’t recommend the R1 because It doesn’t cone with a brace plate which is more sturdy than the screw in apparatus. BUT we were able to finally get our fixtures installed. With the R1 kit I recommend that you attach all of your fixture wiring to the mechanism before screwing into the can light outlet. This will allow you to more easily feed the machine screws through your light fixture wire covering. Whew! Glad that’s over.

worked perfect! better than other brands
i previously tried the westinghouse converter but it didn’t sit flush to ceiling. if you have a small light under 5 lbs i highly recommend this one it was super easy to install and worked great for the pendant light i hung. the extra money was well worth it as you can adjust height so it sits flush since most can light housing differ slightly.

Perfect solution
Went to and electric supply warehouse and was told there was nothing I could do except open the ceiling and remove the can. This worked perfectly well and required no destruction and was easy to install

Simple Solution to a Really Common Problem
This product was much easier than the alternative of attic work to remove an old can light. It is very simple to install especially when compared to a full light fixture replacement. That being said I had a little difficulty with the socket threads losing their contact and the assembly dropping down about 1/8". I just had someone come support the light I was hanging until I had everything secure and it worked out, although it still felt a little precarious

No support
The medallion floats and cannot be securely screwed in before installing the light. Had issues screwing light in due to this. Ultimately had to maneuver the light so much that I bent the metal that holds the can light socket downwards. The light does not sit flush and my ceiling and medallion are scratched up. I thought this was overpriced before I bought but now I know it is. Make sure to get a converter that has side support. This one is garbage. The instructions are awful as well.

Works as expected.
The perfect solution for those who want to go with another option where there are can lights. Because can lights create a big hole in the ceiling, conversions not involving drywall or soffit patch are rare. These do the trick, but installation by the weekend warrior can be tricky.

Got the job done.
My husband had a little bit of difficulty installing this, but he figured it out and got it done. We used it to install a ceiling fan in our master bathroom. Fan works great.
