Authentic Conga Rhythms: A Complete Study: Contains Illustrations Showing the Current Method of Playing the Conga Drums and All the Latin Rhythms

Short, but replete
I relied on J. Axtell's review when deciding to purchase this book, and I found that review to be spot on. The book illustrates and provides variations on LOTS of rhythms within very few pages (32). A good addition to a hand drummer's collection, but as Axtell warned, not a beginner's "learn to play congas" book.

Trash
Arrived used when I bought new. Info is outdated and impossible to interpret. Missing info makes it impossible to understand, just like the bongo variation of this book

My kind of guide
This definitely appeals to me. It was written in the 50's or 60's by a session player and is out of date. Also it is more bare-bones reference to specific latin rhythms than a how to play congas book. Furthermore the author regulary uses intermediate or advanced percussion terminology, which doesn't help the beginner, but in the end greatly helps one go beyond a superficial understanding of percussion.

A book from the past...
an informative , basic- tutor book ; probably written in the late 1950's ( first published in 1960 ) ; it therefore lacks contempory conga patterns and 'heel / finger' techniques used extensively today. The hand positioning photographs are incorrectly numbered and phsyically wrong for the modern lug -tensioned drum. Taking account of the reasonable price of this book, and if you can read basic drum notation - it's an acceptable starter.
