Good Read for Classroom
I was expecting more detailed information on projects and materials used with projects. This book does provide the reader with tons of Safety Material that every reader needs to read. Some of the material/pictures seem very basic and missing some key points.Overall, as a teacher’s reference this is a great tool. I would recommend this book.I wish there were more detailed projects to make in the book for students to make.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Good but needs editing
Good intro to woodworking but needs editing. For instance, some of the page breaks are in the wrong place and several of the picture are poor. I bought this book for my son and found myself writing notes in the margins to clarify statements that I thought needed help.

Another Excellent “Lost Craft” Book
I have read and reviewed a number of books on what I would consider to be the “lost arts” by this author like leatherworking, pyrography, and whittling. The author states in the brief introduction that he is not an expert but merely someone who might be a few years down the road from your beginning practice of 0 to 3 years’ duration. He states this gives him a unique perspective on what the beginner truly needs since he himself is not far from that stage nor is he a master of the craft. The book is logically organized, first talking about what woodcrafting is. I love that he shares so many photographs so that you can get a sense of what the different types of woodworking are. Unsure of the difference between in-the-round and chip carving? There are examples of each right in the book. He then talks about the different types of woods to use, including the pluses and minuses of softwood versus hardwood. Following this comes a section on the required tools. Then he shares some processes and techniques. I particularly liked the pictures of all the different types of joins. Other chapters are about all-important safety and finishing. To round out the book, he has 10 beginner projects, what I would imagine would be standard ones, like an easy lidded box and a cutting board, and more interesting projects like an iPad stand. All in all, if you are interested in woodworking or are already at the beginning stages, you might find this book helpful as you start or continue to hone your craft.I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

:)
Typos aside, this was an informative and useful book that I'm looking forward to reading again and again as I get more comfortable in the workshop. I really appreciate the fact that the author knows what it's like to be a beginner and makes his instructions clear for people who are starting with very limited experience.I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Photos are not in color and make it hard to see the images. Info & projects are lack luster.
Photos are in black and white! I was expecting color from the "inside look" preview for the book. After reading the whole book in one sitting, I felt I could have save the money I bought on this book and bought a different book with tons more info for the newbie and a lot better quality, which I've already done. The black and white photos printed on cheap paper makes it hard to see the images, and to follow along with the description found in the text, which I found needed some editing as well.I found this book to be simplistic, with nothing I didn't already find out from searching info about woodworking on the web or watching videos online.

A complete waste of money.
I’m annoyed to have wasted my money on this book and I’m surprised that Amazon sells such a low quality item. This is a thin book, it doesn’t contain many pages but is massively padded out by lots of really low quality black and white images. There aren’t any colour images in this book, apart from on the cover. The quality of the black and white images is also really poor, they’re often too grainy to show anything clearly. To make things worse, quite a lot of the illustrations in this book aren’t even photos or line drawings, they look like clip art images, or something that a child has created on a computer and they convey absolutely zero information to the reader about woodworking. I’ve added photos of a couple of pages to illustrate this point. This book doesn’t include much writing (it’s mostly images) and what writing there is, contains very little useful information. This book looks like it’s written for 12 year olds who are just starting to learn about woodwork at school but even then, I wouldn’t recommend this book to school age learners either. This book is a complete waste of money and Amazon should remove it from their website / app.

Not a real book
Clearly just put together for the sake of 'looking' like a woodwork book. Terrible English. Instruction very hard to follow. Pictures obviously taken from video stills which have no relation to the current pageDon't be an idiot like me and buy it. Research a reputable book and get that0 stars

Woodworking for people who didn't know what wood is
A very very basic book with no real tips or advice for people genuinely looking to start woodworking who are therefore likely to already know the difference between plywood and MDF. More detail is given to safety rather than solid techniques. Don't waste your money.

Informative
It was good, gave me lots of useful tips to start woodworking. It was a bit short however, so I would recommend getting other texts to expand on the information you get from this book.
