Unclear waffle and cartoons instead of diagrams
I have to say that this book epitomises everything that can go wrong with a biology textbook. The authors are obsessed with writing inspirational stories about saving humanity using genetic engineering at the expense of explaining the science succinctly. The colourful cartoons (think very dated, circa 1990!) are pretty, but they are also confusing and should be replaced with clear and rational diagrams. The exercises almost save it, but a large proportion of them lack a solution, making it difficult for students to judge whether they have correctly understood the content.
