Product description Aztec Dream Herb (Calea ternifolia syn. Calea zacatechichi), also known as dream herb, bitter grass or Leaf of God, is a plant species from the family of the asteraceae family. The plant is native to tropical and subtropical Central America, and is most common in southern Mexico. The psychoactive properties of the plant were used by the Aztecs hundreds of years ago to induce dreams. Even today the herb is still used for ritual purposes by the Chontal who are native to Mexico. Dream herb contains various sesquiterpene lactones (zacatechinoloid, germacrene and caleocromen), which are responsible for the bitter taste. Other ingredients are flavones and a yet unidentified alkaloid. Furthermore, furanone-like heliangolides such as 8β-angeloyloxy-9α-hydroxycalyculatolid have been detected in the plant. Which substance in detail is responsible for the psychoactive effect has not yet been sufficiently researched. The active ingredients are soluble in water and alcohol, which allows aqueous and alcoholic extracts. Probably the most widespread use of Calea is the initiation of clear dreams. Here it unfolds its greatest effect at the deepest point of the REM-sleep. Longer and more intense dreams are the result and the memory of dreams improves notable. The Chontal from Oaxaca use the plant to obtain divine visions in dreams. They call the plant thle-pela-kano, the leaf of God. The shamans lay down in a darkened room after drinking a strong brew of the plant and smoking some leaves in addition. In their intoxication they perceive the voices of gods and spirits which tell them information like the cause of an illnes or the location of a distand or lost person. In combination with other plants the leaves are also very suitable for burning incense. Directions 1. 'To use as a tea: Steep the loose leaves in hot water.' 2. 'To use as incense: Burn the loose leaves as you would with any other incense.' 3. 'For traditional 'dream potion': Prepare a brew with the loose leaves, possibly in a darkened room, and consume before sleeping.'
