**2020 global meltdown update** Amazing beginner set for a great price!
This is for the 201 piece setIt’s 2020 - the world may be extra messy but these tools continue to be drama free and continue to repair and build with no issues. That being said, this set seems to only be available for well over the 60.00 price I paid. Instead of overpaying, perhaps look for the Bostitch or Stanley brand black chrome sets as I believe they are the same (or very similar) quality and are all part of the same conglomerate and probably all made in the same factories.**3 year update**Set continues to function well but after regular use I have replaced the 1/4” and 3/8” ratchets with higher quality versions due to personal preference. **I upgraded to gearwrench ratchets....highly recommended****2 year update*************This set continues to function without issues and has served as a great platform to perform a multitude of jobs around the house and on vehicles. I don't understand the negative reviews as this is a screaming deal for decent, functional tools. Is it something you're going to brag about owning or something your grandchildren will want to inherit? Probably not, but in the meantime they get the job done and they are reliable. I have zero doubts that this tool set will hold up to consistent usage. I continue to recommend this set. ***************Original Review: This set should be purchased with a clear understanding of what it is: an extremely good deal in order to begin building a tool collection. Ideally suited to a young person, beginning DIY type or first time homeowner. This set contains a majority of commonly used sizes of sockets. The three ratchets seem to be an excellent deal for the price and I have had no issues with them in limited wrenching. One note: the small 1/4 ratchet was extremely stiff out of the box. Prior to using, I disassembled all three ratchets, removed the extremely thin to nonexistent factory grease and used super lube synthetic grease on the internals. Upon reassembly, all three ratchets operate much, much smoother. I highly recommend this step. The sockets themselves fit well and do their job. Their drawback is that it is extremely hard to see their stamping and identify their size. Not a major deal as you can go by feel and see what fits when working on a project. The combination wrenches are cheaply made and while their sizing seems correct, due to their narrow beam (the handle portion is thin and uncomfortable to use if applying significant force) I will be replacing them with a nicer set. They do not require immediate replacement and are ok for occasional, light use. I am only replacing due to personal preference.Overall this set presents itself as a great deal for a beginner set of tools with a lifetime warranty. Please note that all warranty claims must be called in and a replacement tool will be mailed out. If you are looking for better/quicker warranty support i.e. Walking into a local store and walking out with a replacement, I'd recommend: craftsman (Sears) husky (Home Depot), kobalt (Lowe's) or duralast (Autozone) brand tools.Quick note: for some reason Stanley neglects to include a 3/8 drive 3/4 socket so.....I ran over to Home Depot and paid a couple bucks for the Husky branded one....guess what? It's a dead ringer for the Stanley sockets in my set. This small issue only serves to reinforce my belief that this Stanley set is a great deal for the price. Also: it is my understanding that Husky (Home Depot's house brand) tools are manufactured by Stanley. Unless you are a demanding user, I feel this Stanley set performs extremely well and is able to do 99.9% of the same work for a much lower price point than Husky or the other aforementioned tool brands.

Excellent value for what you get. 5/5
Stanley STMT71654 201-Piece Mechanics Tool SetI purchased this Stanley STMT71654 201-Piece Mechanics Tool Set in September, 2014. I wanted to wait a good bit of time before writing a review. It is now February, 2016 (approximately 17 months of use) and I am rating it 5 stars.I am giving this set 5 stars for many reasons. I would be what you consider a DIY-home mechanic and I would not consider myself to be a professional. If you are going to use your tools every single day, then you may want to look somewhere else. With that said, I have never broken any of the tools in this set (yet) and I use the sockets and ratchets at least once a week.I do brake service jobs (pads and rotors) on my family's vehicles, friends vehicles, and sometimes friends-of-friends vehicles. I have also used this set to remove partial dashboards to replace speedometer clusters, and other various components to a vehicle. I have changed transmission fluid, motor oil, rear differential fluid, brake fluid, and transfer assembly fluids using this set. I will add that for some jobs you may need a pair of pliers for vacuum hose clips, which this set does not include. I have also changed spark plugs, but the deepwell sockets in this set do not have a rubber boot in them to hold a spark plug. I used different "spark plug" sockets for this job. I will add that you may want to purchase longer extensions than what come with this set as to supplement this set of tools.I really like the screwdriver bits that came with this set as I haven't stripped any of them (yet) with a fair amount of use using my 18v battery operated drill (not included in this set). The open-ended screwdriver that came with this set isn't the best quality, but that isn't going to affect my rating. It is usable, but I usually use the bits with an adapter on my battery operated drill.I know many times when I read a review, I always want to ask the question: Would you buy it again? My answer is pretty simple: If my garage burned to the ground and I lost all of its contents, one of the things that I would definitely purchase again is this set of tools. The price is AMAZING for what all you get, and I haven't broken anything (yet). I don't like incriminating myself, but I may have used a ratchet and a 3 lb hammer a few times for stuck bolts. Everything in this set is made in China, but Stanley warranties everything. I haven't had to use it, but after reading other reviews (which I did before purchasing this tool set), no one has had problems getting replacements for broken tools. You call up the company with a part number and they mail it to you, done. Again, I haven't broken anything (yet), so I haven't had to call them up personally. Nothing in this set feels cheap to me, not even the case. It has 4 clips that lock tight around the case and it is easy to carry around with you, if you need to. For me, this case stays in the top cabinet of my tool box, and it is still my go-to set of tools when I need them.Stanley STMT71654 201-Piece Mechanics Tool Set
