Useful addition
We use these for additional learning for my son in yr 5. They are good value and help us benchmark what he has learned or is learning at school.

Quite ok
A great little practice book. This particular book offers quite a good range of topics. My only complaint is the usual one - I wish this book were twice its size. It seems to be quite too easy but that will definitely depend on the level your child is at. There are answers (no additional challenges) at the back.

Help With Math
I've used CGP books in a number of different ways with various young people through work and have always found them extremely useful, well laid out and gives a boost for students at home from the curriculum they are currently learning. To be honest, I even remember using them myself when I was at school a good few years ago now, they're that well established as a publisher! These workbooks are designed to help catch-up and support learning at home and this one is for KS2 - Year 5 so aimed at 9-10 year olds . It is designed to be completed week by week with the activities getting progressively harder as they learn more in school. This is a Math based one and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Obviously it will support learning but is not intended to be daunting or overly hard and you will know how well your little one copes with this type of learning, I really like that you can help support school learning at home and feel part of what your child is learning, whist encouraging them from home. They are clear, concise and fun for young people to complete. As a new parent to a little one, I was intrigued by this range aimed at younger students and excited to see what they have to offer and was happy to find the quality and challenges are the same with these books as I've previously used. I really like this workbook and the fact there are answers in the back is great for parents and/or care givers. I know sometimes supporting young ones at home can be daunting for some but with answers supplied you can help encourage your young one with no stress about what is right or wrong. I find these encourage great conversation, especially when completed supported and I look forward to completing this with my little one when he is ready.

Great for year 5. And for year 55 too.
Our grandson (who is 10) loves maths, and as it happens I love maths as well, but it's been 42 years since I sat my A Level and in that time a lot has changed. When I'm asked to go through questions with him I suddenly find myself in the position of knowing the answers but falling down on how they should be set out to comply with modern teaching methods. This book is excellent, because it lays everything out exactly as a 10 year old understands it, which means that I can use the book as a basis for testing him, knowing that I won't be passing on any bad habits. The idea, should you want to use the book "correctly", is that your child follows this through the summer term. One test per day (taking no more than ten minutes) throughout twelve weeks. Sixty tests in total. Each test is set out with large print and appealing illustrations, so nobody is going to look at them and think, "I can't be bothered with all that!" Your child can write their answers in the book if necessary and then you can check them off using the solutions provided in the back pages. At the bottom of each page is a box which says, "Today I scored....out of 10" or however many questions happen to have been set for that day. It's usually between 8 and 12, so nothing daunting.Having tried (and failed) during lockdown to re-learn all the things from A-Level maths which I had forgotten, I've finally found my level. This is a very good book for children and parents/grandparents alike, and I couldn't recommend it more.

Bite size catch up
It is so important to help our children recover academically from the effects of the pandemic. CGP have done a great job in helping streamline this process by providing these super books. They allow children to tackle each topic in short chunks of 8-10 questions lasting no longer than 10 minutes. Each page starts with an example then gives the opportunity for the methods to be practiced. This style of book has been particularly helpful in pinpointing key topics on which to focus. I love that these books come with a shiny thicker cover, thereby making them more durable when being used each day and they are packed with amusing illustrations. This engages and stimulates the pupil. As a teacher and tutor, I believe these books are well targeted for Year 5 students to help them secure the foundations needed to apply their understanding to reasoning problems.
