If tried just about all the sharpening guides. This style is my favorite.
I've tried several different styles of hand filing guides for sharpening chainsaws. This one is my favorite. It does take a little bit of effort to learn to use correctly, but it is well worth it. I like the fact that you can see the tooth as you sharpen, making it easy to see the progress. I also liek that the tool used for setting the depth gauges (a.k.a. "rakers") is what is known as a progressive style depth gauge tool, which customizes each depth gauge exactly to it's associated cutting tooth. This makes the chain far less sensitive to needing to keep all of the cutters the same length, and also adjusts the setting as the tooth is filed back to maintain best cutting performance. (with the non-progressive depth gauge tools which are so common, it's important to keep all the teeth the same length.)The results with these sharpening guides are excellent. You may have to put up with the chainsaw know-it-alls who sneer at using a guide to sharpen, preferring to use just a bare round file. I suggest ignoring them. You won't change their minds, but with a bit of practice, you'll have a chain that cuts better/handles smoother and/or holds and edge longer than 95% of those who free-hand file. (I've met MANY dozens of chainsaw users with years & decades of experience who THINK they do a great job sharpening chains. I've met exactly 3 who can actually do a better job free-hand with just bare file reliably, time-after-time than someone with a bit of practice can do with a good guide.NOTE: this particular guide (Husqvarna 5052435-01) is designed for use with a 7/32" file on a 3/8" pitch chain such as Oregon LGX or LPX series or Husqvarna H42 (NOT a 3/8" pitch low-profile chain). The Husqvarna X-Cut C83 or C85 takes a slightly different guide: Husqvarna part #586938602

Simple to use and makes sharpening easy
I used this a couple times. so far. I bought this 3/8's guide and the .325. I posted the same review for the .325. I have noticed my chains cut perfectly straight now. Each tooth is angled the same and of the same length. The plastic on the 2 rollers show no sign of wear year yet. Just set your file on the BOTH rollers and push forward a stroke. There are angle marks on the device dependent on 25 or 30 degree tooth angle. The roller guide seems to be made of really light grade aluminum or white metal. The raker gauge takes some getting used to and it has 2 different settings. One for hardwood and one for soft wood. If this tool works out like I think it will for me I'll buy another one if I lose it or wear it out.

Raker gage is perfect to establish depth. File sharpener is great.
Purchase this to replace my Stihl file combo. It takes the rakers down to far. More control with the husky and visibility into what the file is doing on the tooth.

great tool!
I have used this tool to sharpen my chainsaw for awhile now. It works great. It took me a bit to figure out how to use the depth gauge part of the tool, but now that I understand it, I love the tool even more. I have used several sharpening gizmos, but this one works very quickly (which is important to me since I sharpen often - I love a freshly sharpened chain) while still being consistent from tooth to tooth. The latest thing I learned is to keep files around that still are new enough to cut the metal easily - they don't last forever.

Hard to rate effectiveness and value
The instructions are pretty weak to ensure owner understands its application correctly. I saw this tool on a YouTube video, liked the concept. But, in getting the tool, I didn't feel confident how to best use/apply the tool. I went back to the video, copied how it was used there. I actually feel the flat raker measuring tool is faster and more exact. I am continuing to use it, but the flat tool seems simpler and faster to use.
