Great for the beginner
For the most part it's pretty good. Some parts are a little convoluted. But it'll get the novice player to a better idea of what they can do with their rig

Hands down the best set-up/repair book I've found.
Easy read with tips that are usable on-the-fly. Somebody put some thought into the layout; like when you've got your neck in one hand and a screwdriver in the other...the last thing you want to do is turn a page! This book solves that with straightforward instructions and large, useful photos...all on the same page. Only negative for me was the bass guitar chapter. Covers all the basics, I just wanted a few more "if you're at a gig and "x" happens" that the other chapters address so well. Still, it's does everything else so well I had to give it 5 out of 5."Tales from the road" make a normally boring subject matter fun again. Occasionally bordering on the unbelievable ("go save my drums" in the tornado comes to mind), but you can tell that author really is who he says he is. For Black Crowes & B-52's fans, it's worth the read even if you don't play.

A good basic book but not detailed enough.
I will say that I liked this book and enjoyed the author's commentary and brief road stories working with pro musicians. That being said, this book is ok for some basic stuff, but not nearly as detailed as I would have liked. It you want to get into detailed explanations of how and why, in-depth maintenance procedures, alternate options for setting up your guitar, and learning to be completely self sufficient- I would look for another book. For someone who just wants the simple basics of what to check and look out for, and a brief description of how to maintain your guitar overall, this book would be a good choice.

The best way to know your instrument is to look inside it!
If your at all interested in the inner workings of your guitar as well as enjoying some great stories from the road by an industry veteran this is definitely the book for you.Doug's book is laid out in an easy to follow manner, with just the right amount of technical instruction to get you started in maintains your instrument and your gear. He doesn't get too bogged down in stuff that's hard to understand but rather presents you with a clear and concise step by step guide that makes you want to dug deeper into your gear.At the same time, if your looking for a fun read about life on the road with some the industry's top rock bands then you'll definitely enjoy this book. The first time I read it I got through it in a night and really enjoyed it. Now I know I can go back anytime and pick a certain section, get out my guitar and just focus on what that particular part has to offer.

A fine reference for gigging guitar players who want to keep playing on the road.
“A Tech to the Stars Tells How to Maintain Your Axe Like a Pro”. Well I can’t blame the fellow for using his street credentials to market the book. Sort of like, hey you’ve never heard of me but I know what I’m talking about because I’ve toured with ……! There was a lot of useful information in this book including some what to carry with you and how to fix things in a pinch tips. The stories are interesting but the photos are in black and white and could have been a bit more illustrative. Well worth the $11 I spent to purchase this reference, I learned that much and more. Other reviewers have called it “informative, easy to understand advice”. I would agree with that and this is a very reasonable reference for a guitar player. I wouldn’t recommend this book as a sole reference for the guitar tech or builder.

A Must Have!
The Guitarist's Guide to Maintenance & Repair is a well-written, entertaining 'how-to,' that belongs on any workspace. A novice player will save bundles, learning to do their own guitar maintenance, while the seasoned guitarist will prevent costly mistakes - learning from a tech with YEARS-worth of experience. The book is written in an engaging, conversational style in both the 'how-to' selections and the amusing 'war stories' that are thrown in for good measure, so even if you're not elbows-deep in a rewiring project, it's still entertaining to browse through, pick up a few tips and chuckle at some tech misadventures.Found it so useful, bought one for a friend. I'd suggest that - you lend this one out, you may never get it back!
