Perfect for an Aspiring Composer
Our Head of the Composition Dept. recommended we all get this book as a reference and it has helped immensely, especially when hand-writing music. It's like a music encyclopedia, now I just need a music terminology dictionary...

Not a Dictionary
I find this manual very thorough - an excellent textbook. I'm not a musician of the level requiring this book. I was looking for a very thorough and complete music dictionary so, on the second try I found what I was looking for: The Harvard Dictionary of Music.

Useful for all musicians- performers
A very helpful book, organized smartly. Useful for all musicians- performers, composers and theory-minded musicians. A book I would recommend my students.

Five Stars
Best book on contemporary notation out there, and it has been so for many years.

Outstanding resource for decoding 20th century music notation
One of the best books available in decoding 20th century notation. Stone has done a remarkable job in bringing together a huge body of 20th century notation--and explaining how to interpret it. This has been helpful in teaching a variety of instruments and helping students to learn to be comfortable with all the advances in experimental notation for the 20th century.

Quick delivery but print quality is not good
I am a composer of contemporary music and teaching extended techniques in universities. This is an useful book in many ways. I have received it very quickly but I see that most of the pages have blurred stripes. I have no time to return and it's mostly legible. If the print condition was good I would give a 5 star.

Wonderful Resource
Contemporary notation is in such flux, and as a composer we can't always keep abreast of it all. Sometimes we just need a starting point, or at least one way to accurately get across our intentions to the performers. This book is great - simply laid out, and a whole lot of effective notation. If you don't have anything (even if you do), get this book.

EVERYONE MUST HAVE THIS BOOK
As a composer this book is getting worn out already! Kurt Stone compiled all agreed modern notation for things not seen before 1900, it also has all acceptable current forms of traditional notation. If there is a standard notation for something you are trying to do compositionally it is in this book.

Illeggibile
Ho acquuistato il libro in formato kindle e una volta aperto sulla app mi sono trovato con pagine piene di caratteri e figure illeggibili. Non ritengo sia onesto mettere in commercio un libro digitale editato in quella maniera. Sconsigliatissimo.

Extremely useful book!
This book is extremely useful for anyone who is interested/studying/composing contemporary music. I have used it as a guide to writing extended techniques in my compositions for my university and it was recommended by them too. It's also a helpful guide on understanding and analysing contemporary and modern music scores. One downside was that I couldn't find any specific notation for the extended techniques of the classical guitar, disappointing personally to me but still a great book, one that I use often.
