Great read
Very interesting way of presenting mathematical ideas applied, sometimes more Seth is warranted though

Very good book
This book is very well written and you get stuck on it because of the things explained. As an Italian reader I cannot say it is an easy reading , nevertheless I would recommend it.

GREAT !
It's a very funny book and you don't need very hard knowledge to have fun with it. It is very clear and dealing with various topics from old maths (like pYthagora's theorem) to very early developpments in financial theories. It's very easy to read even for non native English talking people like me. Just buy it !

A sweet eye-opener for less math-inclined people and a wonderful ode to statistics for your average mathletic
Even if I try, I cannot come up with a legitimate negative impression of this book. The only thing I will say for people considering buying it (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) is, they should be aware of what the book is trying to sell. That is (in my view) a general impression with slight deep dives of abstract mathematical ideas. It does so bya) explaining mathematical and statistical theorems (e.g. regression to the mean, voting systems, ...) in a real-world applicable fashion andb) giving historical back-ground information on the developments of mathematical theories like academical curriculum of philosophers and mathematicians and global/local political/scientific developments andc) a VERY lovable style of writing. Jordan Ellenberg really does make you feel like you are just out on campus grabbing a cup of coffee in a cozy and easy-going environment having some colloquial chats about this and that (appearing to be maths and statistics and some fun related anecdotes that will make you the crowd-pleaser at every gathering) peppering in some sarcasm, FYI's and hints to deeper literature, and simple drawings (that you would expect him to doodle on a paper serviette in said coffeshop)I think it is safe to say that everyone (apart from people who have a natural avertion against reading in itself) will enjoy this book on some of the many accountable levels. Additional learnings included?! Even better!Highly recommended for anyone NOT looking for a highly technical algebra textbook or to improve their already PhD-Level maths skills.Everyone else: Grab a copy!____FYI: I studied economics and it was especially nice coming back to theorems I've used during my studies and refreshing some memories and skills. To anyone else not having a somewhat mathematical/statistical background, I recommend this even more, since it captures and explaines beautifully many theorems that should well be common knowledge and improve general understanding of everyday decision making and how, by refering back to statistics, everyday errors in decision making can be relativized to some extend.
