From the Manufacturer --------------------- The PanaVise 561 crimp press retrofit kit is an accessory kit that converts a Panavise 502 precision PanaPress (sold separately and required for use) into a convenient crimp press. The 561 crimp press retrofit kit contains a 12" lever for increased leverage ratio over a standard 502 PanaPress, top and bottom caps for the lever, crimp die holders, all neccessary ing hardware, and two Allen wrenches to ease installation. A crimp press is an example of insulation displacement connection (IDC) technology and is invaluable for independent repair technicians and in-house service departments in a variety of industry sectors, including computer networking, telephony, and electronics. It allows users to quickly and effectively crimp connectors onto wires and cables, eliminating the need to manually strip insulation, or to use handheld crimpers to attach connectors. The PanaVise 561 crimp press retrofit kit attaches to the 502 PanaPress and harnesses the evenly distributed downward pressure of its ram element. When combined with crimp die sets (sold separately) and the extra torc of the 12" lever arm included, users can quickly terminate the ends of cables and wires with the connectors they need for the application at hand. Used in work scenarios where the length of wire needed is a known, the 561 crimp press retrofit kit is designed for medium volume output, eliminating possible damage to wire and cable known as the "scissor effect" that can occur in crimpings done by hand. It also helps prevent injuries to wrist, hands, nerves and tendons that can result from the repeated use of handheld tools for crimping of wire and cables. Insulation displacement connector (IDC) technology is designed around the application of internally bladed connectors to the ends of wires and cables that are then used to complete circuits used in low current applications. This efficient and time-saving method replaces earlier circuit connection methods that required stripping wires and soldering on connections. Connectors used in IDC applications are specific to wire types and gauges. When compressed, the internal blades in connectors pierce the insulation of the wire or the cable, making contact with the wire inside, maintaining conductivity through a combination of direct pressure and the vacuum that compression creates between the conductive material and the connector's blade.
