Great Value
First off, I bought this because of price and for use at home. For comparison, at work I have a different brand that works out to about $175 per monitor. My price on this StarTech Quad works out to about $40 per monitor. Also, one can buy something similar to this for less money but those knock-off seem to be hit and miss. Things like poor threads, parts that don't align, and poor finish. While assembling the StarTech I saw none of those types of issues. This mount has two main difference from an articulated arm design. First, this mount is shallow. If your monitors are against a wall, this mount allows you to keep the monitors on the far side of your desk. My experience with articulated arms is they take up a lot of room behind the monitors. Articulated arms against a wall force the screens about 6-8 inches closer to the user. Second, the StarTech mount does not have the range of motion of an articulated arm. The arms swing forward only about 6 inches at the ends, so depth adjustment is limited. The monitors can slide on the arm so there is good range in that sense. This mount does allow one to really lock a monitor into a location if that is what one wants or needs.

Very sturdy, very functional stand for four monitors, may uses, may be overkill for some, but some very legit applications.
There are several uses for a stand like this, but I know of a few important ones. I can imagine some more interesting ones too which I'll get into later in this review. First some of the important details and concerns. The Good:1. These are rotatable (360 degrees), swivel (90 degrees) on strong hinges, and even tilt just like best of the monitor stands for a single monitor.2. The cable management system is first rate routing cables from the monitor to the middle of the support base then all the way down.3. There is also a limited height adjustment so you can gauge these how you are sitting or standing, close or from a distance.4. The stand is no light weight, it weighs in over 15 pounds. The Not as good:1. The base is not very wide, so if you buy this one with the stand, while you don't have to mount it like the desk version it must be secured.2. A minor nitpick here, but I think it could use dual right and left side cable management clips on the main stock for room and versatility. Now, while they hint at some business applications, here is my list of good applications:1. I know people who have used nine and even a dozen monitors at home with special graphics cards for doing investing, day trading and the like.2. This quad is Ideal if you are using close quartered PC's with cloned monitor screens on a gamer tactical team multiplayer game. It allows you to see and or command your team more efficiently.3. In the engineering world there is testing done with automated and manual hardware and software in the loop and this can pair with a test station to monitor the important aspects, like emulating a gauge cluster on a car or truck, monitoring or sending serial commands to a vehicle control module etc.4. With the advent of video cameras that connect on monitors one person could effectively have a video conference with multiple employees.5. You can with special software do presentations that can create variations on split screens where one, two, or all four form the picture.6. If you are a sports fanatic you can effectively monitor four games or events on this at the same time.7. Suggested by the editors already, you can be more productive my putting the most used software screens on display at all times. this means you don't accidentally close or lose a document or table you were needing to reference.8. Software debuggers can have their application running, while running the debugging tool, with their coding window open, and the requirements document in the fourth window, very efficient way to be productive.9. Eye candy in an office reception area, where they often show what the company does on one large screen slide show you can catch peoples interest faster by showing many events or products in action at once.10. Interactive testing and education you could communicate with online schools, sent and receive questions and answers, proactively do assignments monitored by the remote instructor for review, and access the web for help.Of course there are many applications of using four monitors, I went to using dual monitors more than ten years ago at work (I test automotive and truck software and hardware). Today I use three with my laptop being the third monitor. I envision using these as as test station that will deploy the test environment, and have a window to Labview to create the tests and access the hardware and software, and one to deploy virtual controls, switches and monitors and the like. Recommended for those who like to multitask and love computers. Note: I left out one of those creepy applications like observing all your neighbors like in that one movie a few years back, but whatever floats your boat, just don't get caught:)

Very Strong and Sturdy Quad Monitor Stand
I was skeptical about the "free standing" claim of this StarTech.com Quad Monitor Stand, but I was surprised to see that it lives up to the promise. It stand still and strong on the desk well balanced with the weight of the monitors, unless an earthquake shakes it down. It's best for four 24" monitors, leaving rooms for tilting and swiveling. With 27" monitors, there is no room to move and the four panels will stay flat, which is fine if that is what you want. Most trading setup uses 24" monitors because having four 27" in front of your face can be overkill. For that purpose, this stand serves well. The stand is very well made and heavy duty. It comes with the tools for mounting the monitors and adjusting the joints. It also has wire clips for organizing the cables. I recommend it!
