Do you paint everything first and then assemble the parts?

My husband is an experienced builder. I got it for him. The body is assembled then painted & any decals added. Each of the containers is individually painted & decals, added then placed on deck. Hope that helps.

No, I would say this model is intermediate to advanced skill level.

Please confirm if is made with carboard? or which is the material.

It is made of plastic, with a high level of detail. It will build into a very nice model of the main type of cargo ship used around the world.
