Great place to start if you want to learn Linux
This book will not make you an expert on Linux, nor will it make you a hacker or a master of bash scripting. What it will do is give you a solid foundation and a broad understanding of Linux and the command line. I have just finished this book and it has been a valuable read. For someone who already had experience with Linux I have learned quite a lot, even from the basics. I have also picked up many tips and tricks to use to optimise my work flow and save time. The best thing about this book is it's practical. For me that is the best way to learn, by learning then doing and that is exactly how you should follow this too. Get a new virtual machine set up (I used Ubuntu), learn and get hands on experience by putting it into practice. Another thing I like about this book is the amount of content it covers, how broad it is and the way it is laid out. Right from the start you will learn the basics of how to navigate the system, how Linux works and much more and this progressively builds on this as you move through the book. This makes it perfect for beginners but as someone with experience my self I have found it to be very useful.Great book overall. There are many courses online that claim to teach you Linux and the command line but they are not thorough enough. This book gives you the theory and the practical understanding which will be valuable in almost any field. If you work in tech or want to learn new technologies, Linux always seems to be utilised and it is definitely worth learning. Personally I work in cyber security and will eventually be moving into penetration testing. I think if you want to specialise in a field you need to know the basics and theory behind it, and how things work. This book has gave me a solid base to build on and I would recommend it to anyone looking to learn Linux.

Excellent text, poor binding
This book is a pleasure to read, it is informative, well written and will make you feel at ease in the Linux world. It absolutely needs to be purchased. However, the binding of the book fell apart in 3 DAYS of "usage"! I have never seen something like that, and I was not expecting this from an otherwise very well present book. I cannot even return it, because the information in it are excellent, and I had already started to highlight them.

Ideal book to learn command line in Linux.
Ideal for someone wanting to learn the command line in Linux. Teaches required commands and users are able to learn how to string commands together and gain more experience in Linux to possibly progress to more specialist skills.Even complete novices will be able to learn from this book. This will help me understand what the Linux commands I use at work actually mean and do.

Does what it says
Yes, the book does have a fairly bad coating of glue on the spine. However, it's a book and the info isn't going to corrupt over the spine coming away from the cover. It's got everything you need to learn about Linux command.. read it, enjoy it and don't complain about it not looking like new afterwards!
