Q: How does this not alter the width of the rack? The brackets go in opposite directions for the rack and equipment...??

Sorry I wasn't clear on my answer, if you are looking to extend your rack the brackets are mounted on the outside like a normal piece of equipment. If you're looking to install them inside to shorten the space you still mount them from the outside, yes the entry of the rack width will be altered but not towards the back it'll be the standard width. Do a search for "startech rail depth instructions" and you will see how these are mounted.

Yes, that is what they look like. It is a unique design. Typically extenders are a U shape. These are a Z shape. The oval holes anchor to the existing rack. The clip nuts go into the square holes. They work great!

Dont know anything about a leviton rack, but if you need more depth, then I'd say yes. Mine are being used with dell 2U rack mount kits
