My waist is 30". Is the buckle removable to cut shorter? What all options are available to shorten belt?

Trick from my military days, many years ago. loosen the clamp that holds the belt in the buckle, and remove the buckle. Insert the brass covered end into the buckle, like you were putting it on and snug it down. Now, with the buckle facing your belly, thread the bare end back through the buckle until you have a comfortable fit. Cut the excess off may 2-3 inches longer than you need. Done with no measuring.

How wide is the belt?

The belt is exactly as wide as the older military canvas belt for blue pants (AF), tans (Navy), etc. It is 1 and 1/4 (1.25) inches. The buckle actually fits the old military belt, although the belt that comes with it is a little lighter canvas which makes it lock easier.

Will this belt pass a metal detector? I have to pass through security at work and would like to not ahve to take my belt off everyday.

YES and NOYES because of the metal clasp will set off the alarm.NO if you easily remove the clasp and put it with your coins, keys and anything else you put in the pass through tray. This is what I do as undoing and re-attaching the clasp is done in 30 seconds versus removing and slip back through all your belt loops, which can take much longer. Further, the NO method is no hassle versus the YES optionI hope this helps.

AWhat's the fiber—cotton, polyester, nylon?

Color fades after washing. Belt holds my 48 size pants and my Ruger LC9 hand gun with no problems. Belt is strong. Feels similar to cotton (or possibly a blend).
