Not great for the long-haul
At first it started off great! I’m not very comfortable using a full-size sewing machine so this was perfect to start with to get used to using a machine. Unfortunately after the first day I used it, things went downhill very fast. A couple days after the first use I checked it to put away and the batteries, that had come included with it, completely broke down in the battery slot of the machine. (It had been turned off the whole time, but sometime faulty batteries have a mind of their own) I cleaned it out completely, threw out the bad batteries, and stored the machine away. A month or two later when I took it back out to use again, I put brand new batteries in it and turned it on. I clicked the ‘on’ button and started trying to use it. Nothing happened. Then while I was looking back at the instructions it just suddenly started moving on it’s own and click click click. I couldn’t get it to stop. Finally it stopped and I turned the whole thing off and just went back to my project with the good ol’ hand sewing. An hour or so later I started smelling an awful burning smell, so I looked around for it. I could not, still can’t, believe it but the smell was coming from the turned-off machine. I grabbed it and the entire machine was hot as heck to the touch so I ran with it over to the sink. I used oven mitts to get the battery slot open, since it’s turned off at this point the only option left is to directly remove power source. They had darn-near exploded inside the machine. There was fluid everywhere, the batteries themselves had burn/melt marks all over them. Smh. I still have no idea how this all happened.

What up with this?
I opened the box and read the instructions thoroughly. I inserted four batteries as per instructions. The machine did not work, so I made sure the batteries were fully charged. Still nothing, so I tried something different. I reversed all the batteries by turning them around counter to the instructions. Now the machine works fine! I have mended two socks with it and so far no problem. Singer might want to look into this problem. If the wiring is wrong an electrical adapter may cause a fire if the polarity is not correct.

Recommended with Reservations
Needle that came installed in the machine broke within a few stitches. I loaded one of the replacement needles it came with, and even running it through the sample fabric that came with it, the replacement needle broke too. I loaded yet another of the replacement needles it came with, and that one broke within a few stitches also. None of the needles are marked with Singer’s logo - not the one that comes loaded in the Singer sewing machine nor any of the ones in the replacement set that ships with it. I have ordered Singer needles to see if that makes any difference and will adjust review accordingly. Also, the thread that ships with this set is just okay, breaks easily.UPDATE: Went from 1 Star to 3 Stars, but with reservations1) The needles that come with this are garbage and are NOT made by Singer. Replacing the needle with a Singer needle fixed the issue of the needles that came with it continuously breaking.2) The thread that ships with it is also low quality and can break easily. Setting the tension on the lowest possible helped but didn’t completely solve the issue.3) In general, it seems like the tension needs to be at the minimum setting with most threads (which is the moment the tightening screw latches in).Would be nice if the unit had a small light underneath to make it easier to see where you are sewing.I would consider this okay for very light work, but it simply cannot compare to an actual sewing maching.

Fantastic at price point.
For price point this thing is a banger!I bought this over all the quick job portable sewing machines bc singer was bold enough to put their name on something so basic.Gets the job done!Sewed 10 huge curtains and even through blackout material with little fuss just back stepping it to “lock down” the stitch on start a finish.

DONT BUY THIS
The only reason I’m giving two stars is because this thing managed to help me hem one pair of my favorite pants. Besides that, the bobbin got stuck as did the hand wheel and the needle randomly just snapped in half. I didn’t even go through it returning it, I just threw it in the trash. Just save up your money and buy a beginner machine from singer DIRECTLY or buy a used one off Facebook marketplace!!

Easy to use and store
I love this little machine. Did not want to purchase a big sewing machine, just because I do not want to look for room for storing it or wast money. I just needed something to help me replace a zipper and this one is perfect . Easy to use.
