OK file. Didn't work as I expected.
I bought an used guitar but it had a lot of fret buzzing noise so I decided I would "become" a luthier since the guitar was cheap. So I bought a fret file from another website that worked really good, but when it came the time to crowning the frets I didn't know which of the three sizes to use, so I started with the large one and then noticed that not much was happening, so I changed to a medium and then to a small one, to realize that the small one left some scratches on the sides of the fret VERY hard to remove, and there still are some that I got tired of trying to get off. The thing is that to use this file you kinda have to tilt the file so you can have an evenly filing action, which I find a little annoying because it feels like I should be using a triangle-shaped file, but that's the whole purpose of the crowning file not to be filing the corners of the fret. And if you just file up straight you'll see that the very corners and the middle get rounded but the parts in between are still squared. So, I don't wanna blame the file because of my performance, but I thought it would work just like any other file I've used before. I found the shipping a little expensive though...Good luck.

Good Tool but a bit pricey
The media could not be loaded. ย 5:25 is when I use this product in the video. This is a pretty efficient tool to crown your frets when you're pressed for time. The results are good enough but they aren't exceptional by any means. Make sure you go slow and steady with this file because if you use too much muscle then you won't get a smooth crown.I knocked off a star for the price, I feel like this could cost a bit less.

Not a high-quality tool, but it can be made to work
On the whole, this tool looks like it was made by a cottage artisan: it's a simple steel shaft with a groove for file inserts, a threaded hole in one end, and a wood handle on the other end. Neither the shaft nor the handle is finished. The handle is loose, and rotates on the shaft. I don't think that's a deliberate design feature, but so far it hasn't caused a problem. I did have difficulty keeping the file insert in place: the insert is retained by an internal hex screw in the shaft end; the screw head diameter is too small, and the insert slips out from under the screw. Fortunately, I had another screw with a larger head, which works OK.A word of caution: be careful how you use this tool! It may be crudely made, but it does the job. If you file too enthusiastically on a high fret, you will wind-up with a low fret. That's very annoying! (Speaks the voice of painful experience.)

Expensive, but useful
Works great. I leveled some high frets on a few of my guitars. The medium file will get the most use. Its real handy; too bad itโs so pricey. I only purchased this because I had some money saved up. Other than the price, this is great!

Perfect for tool for the novice and pro alike!
I found this to be very good tool and easier than triangle file. The deal is to go easy and not put much pressure on tool, let tool do the work. Many lite strokes is better than one heavy handed. Different size bits is good should fit most fret sizes. Polish with 400, 600, 1200 paper when done and finish off with metal polish, I used Mothers but any quality metal polish will do. Results are amazing!. I was able to get perfect crown on frets. This guitar never played so easy! 1981 Strat. with original neck. I highly recommend to any one doing this type of work.

Fair price for fair product
For the money this file is surprisingly good, worked excellent for shaping frets after a leveling job!

Ho hum.
I had a hard time crowning my frets with this. And I don't have stainless frets. I think I'm going to go with the diamond impregnated fret file for my next fret file. On the plus side I love the ergonomics of this tool. I wish they came in diamond inserts in lieu of carbon steel.

Versatility makes this an excellent choice
I've been playing guitar for decades, many decades, and usually just send my expensive Ovations back to the factory luthiers for re-work, so I don't really do a lot fret filing. I have an old Yamaha FG160 that has very little value other than sentimental, so I decided to try to re-work it myself. Being able to choose the correct size blade, by actually holding them on top of the existing frets, makes this a very valuable tool for the casual guitar-smith.
