The Witch with No Name: 13 (Hollows) Mass Market Paperback – Import, 28 April 2015

Et voilà la fin de la série des Rachel Morgan ! Quelle tristesse d’arriver à la fin de si bons romans ! Mais n’est-ce pas toujours le cas ? Dès la sortie de ce 13ème tome, de très bons avis sont apparus un peu partout sur les blogs. J’avoue que je suis toujours très anxieuse avec les derniers tomes car nous en attendons tous énormément et clôturer une série telle que celle-ci n’est pas une mince épreuve. Mais tous les très beaux avis m’ont rendu vraiment curieuse et je dois dire que je comprends maintenant la raison, ce roman présente une fin parfaite ! Je suis vraiment contente d’avoir pu lire toute la série au cours des années, d’avoir vu Rachel évoluer, affronter ses peurs et devenir une démone à part entière. Qui l’aurait cru en commençant la série, quand on a pu découvrir une jeune femme effrayée par tout ce qui était démoniaque, essayant de fuir tout ce qui pouvait ternir son aura.Rachel doit faire face à de nombreux problèmes dans ce roman. En effet, Cormel a décidé qu’il était fatigué d’attendre que notre démone trouve un sort pour récupérer les âmes des vampires non-morts. Il faut dire que même si Rachel réfléchit au problème, elle n’a pas mis tout en œuvre pour présenter des résultats concrets. Mais Felix devient plus insistant, et Cormel reste déterminé à récupérer son âme et vite ! Pour cela, le maître vampire désire tuer Ivy, et met tous ses moyens en œuvre pour achever ce but. Oui, Rachel se serait-elle pas beaucoup plus intéressée à trouver un remède si sa chère et tendre n’avait pas perdu son âme par la même occasion ? Et en effet, cela fait bouger notre sorcière qui est bien décidée à sauver son amie, coûte que coûte ! Mais voilà, après avoir compris ce qu’il en était exactement (non je ne vous le révélerai pas), il semblerait que rendre une âme à un vampire le pousse à se suicider à cause de la folie que cela induit. Pourtant, cela ne change pas l’avidité de chaque vampire à récupérer son âme.Mais en plus de cela, les elfes entrent en compte et avec eux Landon… Ah Landon, cet homme est un manipulateur né qui n’hésitera pas à faire croire à tout le monde qu’il est capable de bien plus que possible et à mettre toute la faute de son échec sur le dos de Rachel et Trent. Et il faut dire que le gérer sera une chose bien compliquée aussi ! J’avoue que je suis assez surprise que Rachel travaille avec lui après ce qu’il s’est passé auparavant. Mais il y a plus, les démons sont libérés de l’Ever After et se retrouvent maintenant au milieu de tout un chacun. Un grand bouleversement n’est-ce pas ? Un qui n’est pas d’ailleurs pas au goût de tout le monde. Et depuis la dégradation de la relation entre elle et Al, Rachel ne sait plus vers qui se tourner. C’est assez fou de voir que leur lien qui était parti au départ de quelque chose qui ne lui plaisait pas, est devenu aussi fort. Ça fait beaucoup de peine de voir que notre démone s’inquiète autant pour lui, alors qu’il a beaucoup de ressentiment à son sujet. Pourtant, on sait parfaitement que les deux s’apprécient particulièrement et j’étais curieuse de voir ce qu’il se passerait par la suite. Pour tout dire, Al m’a aussi beaucoup touché dans ses réalisations.Mais ce n’est pas tout, oh non car nous avons aussi la relation entre Rachel et Trent. Oh oui parce que les deux ont un gros impact sur l’histoire. Entre les elfes qui essaient de récupérer ses enfants et Rachel qui se rend de plus en plus compte qu’elle enfonce Trent au lieu de l’aider et qu’il serait peut-être mieux si elle le laissait partir. Pourtant malgré ses peurs, notre elfe est bien déterminé à rester avec la jeune femme quoi qu’elle puisse penser. Leur histoire d’amour nous touche particulièrement aussi étant donné tout ce qu’ils ont dû traverser pour en arriver là.A part tout cela, nous verrons aussi la mère de Rachel, de même que son mari. Mais aussi Nina et Felix qui auront une grosse influence sur l’histoire. Vous rappelez-vous de la déesse et de ses protégés ? Nous aurons aussi l’occasion de la voir ici aussi et je dois dire que le tout est assez impressionnant.Donc oui, il se passe énormément de choses dans ce roman et notre héroïne aura vraiment de quoi faire. J’ai été complètement emportée par tous les événements et j’ai d’ailleurs aussi adoré découvrir ce dernier chapitre qui mettait en scène tous nos héros 27 ans plus tard. Quel plaisir de voir comment tout le monde avait évolué et voir une fin heureuse pour nos personnages. Je pense que la seule chose qui m’a peut-être un peu gêné dans ma lecture était la redondance de certains dialogues à très peu de phrases d’intervalles. Ce n’est qu’un détail cependant et cela ne change pas le plaisir que l’on a dans la lecture de ce dernier tome. Alors oui, je vous recommande chaleureusement cette série qui est une vraie merveille au final et je peux vous dire que j’ai passé un excellent moment !

Great ending. Satisfying. Kim left room for more stories; possibly with new characters. This was an interesting series for sure - wonderful to experience the empowering changes in the characters (and obviously the writer) from book to book. Miss the Hollows already. I will gladly read pretty much anything Kim Harrison writes.

The Witch With No Name is simply epic, the perfect ending to my favorite Urban Fantasy series, I was filled with excitement, contentment and, of course, a little sadness as I read the last adventure about Rachel, Jenks, Ivy, Trent, Bis and the other fabulous characters in The Hollows universe that is so beautifully crafted.I don’t even know where to begin, and how to write a review that isn’t just gushing and fangirling about The Witch With No Name, and the whole Hollows series. So well written, and the characters I love so much fighting the last battles made reading The Witch With No Name so very bittersweet. I wanted to read without stopping even to eat, and at the same time, I wanted this last story to continue on forever. And I feel so utterly satisfied at how things unfolded for everyone. There are no spoilers in my review, so it will certainly be a little vague, but know that I just feel happy and sad at the same time, Rachel is the best heroine with all her flaws and her capability to do what is right even when things are really tough.The overall story arcs that have been going on since Dead Witch Walking are part of the stories in The Witch With No Name as well, and I am so amazed at the character growth for most of them. The way they have grown up, grown into their power, the friendships, the relationships, the family connections, the love, the hatred, the enemies to fight… It’s all perfectly done, and I actually kind of feel proud of Rachel. Yeah, I know that sounds a little weird, and I know she’s a character in a series I love, but really, she has been through so much heartache, sometimes at the hands of people she loved and trusted, and she still managed to somehow keep her faith in good. Rachel has always been ready to fight, even when it seems more likely than not that she will loose, and that is still the case in The Witch With No Name.There are quite a few fight scenes, a lot of amazing magic use, demons, vampires, elves all wanting something specific, and Rachel is kind of in the middle of all of it. There are also some truly beautiful and tender love scenes, and my toes are curling just thinking about them. The Witch With No Name managed to completely wow me, and even if I’m sad this was the last story about The Hollows, I am also very happy, satisfied and fulfilled with how it all went down.I thought this ending was pretty darned perfect. There are so many more things I could say about The Witch With No Name, especially because while I was still in the first chapter, I had already highlighted six passages, and I’m bursting with excitement to discuss this book once everybody has read it! And the epilogue *sighs* perfection!

The Witch With No Name is everything I'd hoped it would be, and more. The final Hallows instalment has to be up there, not only as one of my favourite books from the series, but one of my favourite books of all time. It is fast paced, action packed, funny, scary, sad, and above all, incredibly well written. Kim does a fantastic job of tying up the loose ends from the series and giving all the characters an ending that they deserve, and that is one thing that stands out for me, not just in this book but throughout the whole series. Kim stays true to the character from beginning to end. Their motives might change, and their lives might take turns that you're not expecting- but there is always a REASON behind every choice that is made. It all feeds not only into the plot, but into character development. I think that is one of the things that has drawn me to this series, you see each character grow, and learn from each choice they make, for better or for worse, they always get something out of it. Nothing is frivolous or there for the sake of it. That is partly why I love this series so much. The character development is the central focus, added to that a fantastic plot, original setting and an incredibly intricate and detailed world- this makes the Hallows, for me, my all time favourite series.If you've followed along with the series until now, I urge you to pick up this last book. If you haven't, I'd recommend the first in this series (Dead Witch Walking) to anyone.Just incredible.

Dies ist nun meine zweite Lieblings-Serie, die hiermit zu Ende gegangen ist (neben Kelley Armstrongs "Otherworld" - mein erster Kontakt zum Urban Fantasy Genre). Ein Glück dass es noch Kate & Curran gibt, sonst wüsste ich gar nicht mehr welche (guten) Urban Fantasy Bücher ich überhaupt noch lesen soll. Über 13 Bücher hinweg hat man Rachel, Jenks und Ivy begleitet durch sämtliche Höhen und Tiefen (sowie durch zwei Bände, dich ich persönlich eher durchschnittlich fand) und jetzt enttäuscht Kim Harrison nicht mit dem fulminanten letzten Band. Ich konnte mich gar nicht entscheiden, ob ich die Nacht durchlesen soll vor lauter Spannung oder ob ich das Buch noch ein wenig in die Länge ziehen soll - schließlich ist es das letzte und ich werde nie wieder einen neuen Rachel-Roman in den Händen halten...Hier folgt also mein von Superlativen durchzogener Review (ich hatte nämlich nicht genug Beherrschung, um das Buch wegzulegen).Es schließt sich jetzt der Handlungsbogen, welcher schon im ersten Band angedeutet wurde. Die Charaktere haben sich weiterentwickelt, Rachel ist unglaublich gereift und doch ihren Idealen treu geblieben so schwer es ihr manchmal auch gemacht wurde. Trent (mein heimlicher Favorit) hat eine unglaubliche Charakterentwicklung durchgemacht und ist (wie ich schon spätestens seit Every Which Way But Dead gehofft hatte) ein gleichberechtigter Partner für Rachel geworden. Die beiden sind großartig im Kampf und noch großartiger in der Liebe - wir werden belohnt für die lange Wartezeit mit einigen wunderbar romantischen Szenen, eine gute Balance in dem sonst eher actionlastigen Buch. Die gesamte Welt ist unglaublich komplex und dennoch hat die Autorin es geschafft, alle wesentlichen Handlungsfäden brilliant zusammenzuführen.Der Fokus liegt ein wenig mehr auf den Vampiren (schließlich geht es darum, die Seelen der Untoten Vampire mit ihren Körpern zu vereinen), doch auch die Elfen und natürlich meine persönlichen Favoriten, die Dämonen (Al...) haben großartige Auftritte und kommen bei weitem nicht zu kurz. Das Buch bietet eine ausgewogene Mischung aus Action, Introversion und genau die richtige Menge Romantik und Familie. Ja, die Fans von Rachel und Trent werden nicht zu kurz kommen - die Zusammenarbeit der beiden ist schlichtweg spektakulär, wenn auch nicht immer einfach.Das Ende ist bittersüß - ein Neuanfang wird in Aussicht gestellt, gleichzeitig geht ein (Lebens-)Abschnitt vorbei. Kurz gesagt fand ich den Band großartig, einen Abschied wie es sich meine Lieblingshelden verdient haben. Alles in allem (bis auf einige wenige "whiny moments" von Rachel) ein fantastischer Abschluss zu einer meiner absoluten Lieblingsserien mit einem Schuss Ever After. So schade wie es auch ist, dass ich jetzt keine neuen Abenteuer von Rachel lesen werde, so froh bin ich doch, dass uns die Autorin mit einem feel-good-Abschied beschenkt und die Serie nicht völlig unnötig so lange hinzieht, bis auch noch der letzte Tropfen Sympathie für die Protagonistin verloren gegangen ist (ich denke da an Sookie oder Anita...).Danke dass wir an dieser Reise teilnehmen durften! Ich werde die Hollows vermissen und muss jetzt wohl wieder ganz von vorne anfangen zu lesen - immerhin vertreibt mir das die Wartezeit auf den nächsten Ilona Andrews Titel - die letzte absolut geniale UF-Serie auf diesem Niveau, jetzt wo "Otherworld" und "Hollows" ihren verdienten Abschluss gefunden haben.Last but not least: Die Cover und die Titel der Serie sind für mich immer noch absolute Highlights im UF-Genre.
