The Pattern Sourcebook: A Century of Surface Design (Mini)

It's an OK book to flip through if you're looking for inspiration, but it really just seems to be photos of someone's fabric collection, with brief descriptions. There are lots of ways to find photos of fabric, so don't spend too much on this book. The front cover shows a woodblock-style print that's very sharp, but since most of the photos inside are of printed fabric, usually enlarged, the crispness just isn't there.

A comprehensive and fascinating collection of designs. Interestingly catalogued by colour not by date.

The book is nicely produced; the print quality, very good. Most of the patterns are textiles and wallpaper, but not all. The are some ceramics, and a few other things, too. Some of the choices are, to mind mind, poor - such as close-ups of draped or gathered fabric. I want to see it laid flat so the whole print shows. The big disappointment was the cd. Each print has a big copyright symbol on it. (That's the misleading part.) So what's the good of it? Still, the book is useful, and I appreciated that they gave the name of the particular designer when known.

I expected more, because I already have similar books. The collection of patterns is superficial and without any concept (apart from the fact that the author's whim is also a concept). Pictures are in very poor quality, images from one author are scattered. The arrangement of the book does not take into account chronology or style. I ordered this book for my students, but I will show them as an example of how artist MUST NOT work.

The book arrive with the spine detached from the cover. The glue on the spine was no good and the whole thing has come apart on opening up the parcel. I have decided to keep this book and will try to glue it back together again as it came all the way from America and I really do want it but obviously I am disappointed with the quality.

Not a wonderful book by any means. Some interesting patterns but I didn't really find much inspiration in there - some were more retro than retro! As it was quite low priced, it wasn't worth sending back.

This is a substantial book, packed with good quality images.The example I received was in excellent condition.

Excellent reference book with masses of inspired and inspiring patterns for all sorts of surfaces. Perfect choice for a present to a student of any pattern making.
