Q: can you get headphones for it

Yes, you can and should get headphones for it. It has a 1/4" phono plug jack on the back of the electrical housing for a headphone connection. I would recommend the use of headphones because if there are people around you, they might become annoyed by the beeping noise it produces. Plugging in the headphones will bypass the onboard speaker and send the signal straight though the head phones. Also, the use of headphones has the benefit of prolonging battery life, by bypassing the onboard speaker and sending the signal through the headphones.

Q: is this metal detector water proof?

According to the owners manual, the search coil is waterproof, but the case-to-cable connection is not. So keep the detector body dry. Damp grass and shallow water is fine, but only for the search coil.

Q: What is the strength?

Not sure what you mean by "strength". Depth is almost 8'" deep.

Q: Does the handle and pole detach? Could it fit in a 30"x30"x30" box? I'm looking to ship it overseas.

Yes the pole separates about half way down. Top will be right at 28 inches and the bottom will be 22 inches
