Q: How does one know when the filter needs replacing? Can they be cleaned and reused?

Filtering ability is 150 gallons and the Pitcher has a counter of days. So you can guess how much water you use per day in average then you'll know how many days the filter lasts for you. If you worry about the exact date to change, my advice is don't worry too much because the filter life also depends on the water quality, for instance if the water is heavily polluted then the filter won't last to 150 gallons. Say, when I feel it's time then I'll change. The filter cannot be reused but you can get replacement at Epic Water's web site for 20% off.

Q: Is this an alkaline pitcher?

I don’t believe that’s their claim. This pitcher was developed to clean tap water from numerous harmful chemicals and bacteria’s.

Q: How does the Nano Filter perform with well water?

We use our Pitcher in Florida, now our well water has no taste at all. Seems to work great. Prior to that you could not drink the well water. Prior to getting the Pitcher we were buying gallons of water for drinking, coffee maker, cooking etc.

Q: I'm planning for emergency situations. Is a system like this only for basically potable tap water or could I use it for rain barrel water in a pinch?

I bought a survival filter pro for emergencies. Have not used it. Hope to not have to. I do love this pitcher for my tap water though.
