A great resource to design and run a high-impact workshop.
This book is excellent. It serves as a guide for a beginner workshop facilitator and as a reflection prompt for someone who has been doing workshops for some time already. As I am moving more of my workshops online, I found the first part of the book, which deals with workshop design, more useful than the second one, on facilitation. However, the facilitation part contains great actionable ideas on exercise type and on managing the participants’ energy, that work great both online and offline. I do advise to get a copy, even if you do not do workshops for leaving. It may serve you next time you design a team retreat or a public talk. My copy is dog-eared and highlighted all over and sits on the first shelf in my office. I am looking forward to see the resources promised by the authors to be populated online, which at the time of this righting has not been done yet. But even without additional material, the book and the companion website are a great resource.

Serve the people in the room by teaching something valuable
A great book on designing workshops. I like the attitude of the authors: “Serve the people in the room.” “Attention is the first step in the learning process.” “The unspoken contract of a workshop is this: the audience grants you temporary control of their attention in the belief that you will transmute it into something new and valuable. If you violate his contract […] their goodwill evaporates, and you lose them.”The book is all about learning outcome and how to create it. “Who it`s for? What they’ll take away?” First you create a skeleton of the workshop by answering these two questions. Then you sharpen the learning outcome. And the skeleton will be filled with exercises and activities. “Good prompts allow good conversations, and it's your job to figure them out, in advance.”It's a good book for beginners! If you are experienced in creating workshops, you’d know it all. The book is very basic, and that`s a compliment for the authors. It`s not fancy, but very focused on designing and facilitating a workshop with high quality of learning outcome. Following the steps in the book you will create great value!
