Daily Routines to Jump-Start Math Class, Elementary School: Engage Students, Improve Number Sense, and Practice Reasoning

I teach second grade. I recently tried one of these routines from the book. It was a Friday morning, where my students were exhausted and not wanting to put any effort in. As soon as I wrote the question "How can you make...?" on the board, my class was intrigued, but still would rather have been doing their own thing. I gave them their number to make, and my class was instantly coming up with ideas. After a couple of minutes to think, I had them share their ideas with their partners, the class was full of Math talk, but was the quietest it has been in a long time! They were SO ENGAGED!When it came time to share ways that their group came up with, I was so impressed by their Math thinking, and the ways to make the number! My kids were so engaged with this routine, they were upset that they had to get to Math work, and couldn't do the routine for the whole class. They instantly began brainstorming ways to do this at home with their family, but also how they could do this during our Math Game center during the day!Thank you for bringing the spark back to my class! They have the skills, but they haven't been wanting to put the effort forward to really practice their Math. I will be using this routine often, and will continue to incorporate the other routines as well!I HIGHLY recommend this book to any elementary school teacher. Not only will your students be engaged, but they will also feel confident in themselves, and you will see such great mathematical thinking!

This is been a game changer for number sense in my 4th grade classroom!

I purchased this book and am very excited to use it. The problem is every time I try to access the activities it is asking me for a password and I have no idea what the password would be....has anyone other purchasers had this problem?Thanks for any input.
