Works well with Windows 10
This works well with my PC running Windows 10. The software has limited choices for the type and quality of the capture, the best is "DVD" and the file is saved as an MPG. Using a USB 3.0 port the VHS video I captured was 720x480 at 29.97 frames per second. Audio was captured at 16 bit 48kHz stereo. The total data rate was 8224kbs for a 3:59 minute capture with a file size of 240 MB. The quality is highly dependent on the source, but a good quality VHS scaled to 1920x1080P/30 without looking too bad using DaVinci Resolve Studio. For the price, this thing is pretty amazing. 20 years ago something like this would be rack mounted, made by Matrox or Canopus, and cost over $1000.00.

Works with usb-usbc adapters
I originally went for the firewater cable on my Sony vintage camera but my all USBC MacBook Pro couldn’t recognize it with the cable from FireWire->thunderbolt->USBC.I ordered this as a back up just in case the other didn’t work (thank god I did!) and after plugging everything in I put a USBC adapter on it and it instantly downloaded the drivers itself and worked perfectly with QuickTime player! quality is indistinguishable from the LCD screen on the camera! SO HAPPY

Works well - poor documentation
Check out YouTube for how to use with Mac. The company that makes this devise doesn't know how to explain things well. (The format for this review wants a rating on Camera quality and picture quality - this thing doesn't have a camera and the picture quality depends on the original source.)

Good quality product. Documentation not so much.
Overall high quality, except the documentation is very short and assumes a lot. Trying to find help with "no audio" and finding nothing relevant. I doubt I'm alone. Trying to save old vhs recordings to my laptop/thumb drive.

Does what it is supposed to do
I used this to digitize some old VHS video that was irreplaceable. Worked as described. Remember, though, your end video will never be better than your source video. A crappy VHS tape will yield a crappy digital file.

Does not work.
I wanted to transfer VHS-C tapes to digital. I set this up in accordance with the very minimal instructions (that is being charitable) included; it will record the audio, but I get nothing but a black screen, no matter what settings I use. I tried both a mac and a windows machine (both running up-to-date OS) with no luck. Sent an email to customer service, no response. I read all the reviews prior to purchase, folks said it worked well...but not my experience. I tried several different suggestions from Youtube videos where they said they were able to make it work, but no change. Very disappointed, cannot recommend to anyone. Am returning it, so have to start looking for a better way...

It works well but without the helpful comments, I would have returned it!
Until I read the comments for this item, I was prepared to return the item. There is no helpful information to assist in getting this to work on the MacBook Pro 2021 or how to actually use it on a windows computer. Plus the instructions on the cd is actually for the hometech VHS to DVD 3.0 SE not the Video Capture by DigitNow!The only instructions contained in the included printed U170 User Manual for a Mac are to plug it into the USB slot and I quote,"after a while, the hardware will installed in your computer". Untrue, unhelpful, silly. But now that I got the details from the comments, I have it working on my windows desktop And my MacBook Pro. I used it to transfer by old 8mm camcorder tapes to the cloud and DVDs. quality is as good as it can be given the age of the camcorder recordings. So I'm glad to have gotten them into other formats for safe keeping. Thanks to all of the commenters! You saved the day.
