Some Assembly Required - Maybe More for Some than Others
This is a sturdy unit, with adequate instructions, even for a novice (like me). It would be nice if the packet came with an extra screw in each size. My only other suggestion might be for Closet Maid to pre-stamp each piece with the "name" it is given in the instructions - especially in light of the fact that some boards are the same size, but have a different pattern of pre-drilled holes. You can see what I mean, below.I am a smart woman. People even tell me that, sometimes. Most don't know that I am terrible at "spatial ability" - I can't figure out how to put things (like puzzles) together very well. My brain just doesn't see that way. But today I un-boxed the shelving unit (some assembly required) I ordered in a fit of over-confidence while surfing the web at 2 a.m. a few weeks ago.I gathered my tools - a screwdriver and a hammer, just like the instructions told me to. I reviewed how many of every screw there was, and what they were called ("assembly" screw, that's an "assembly" screw -- I would even say it out loud to reinforce the concept). I counted the pre-cut, pre-drilled boards and stacked them neatly into piles by size.I bribed the 9 year-old to help gramma, and he did so willingly, at first. I got the side board connected to the top board, (or maybe it was the bottom board) and was feeling fairly proud of myself. But the instructions called for me to fit "short dowels" into pre-drilled holes in the top board (or maybe it was the bottom board). But the stupid dowels wouldn't fit! So I pulled out the instructions and realized I had picked up a horizontal divider when what I needed was a fixed shelf (same size but the dowels would fit into this one - who knew!).So I unscrewed the first two boards, and grabbed a post-it notepad and labeled ALL the boards - just in case. I had the 9-year old help me again hold the boards while I reattached the fixed shelf to the side board (or maybe it was a top board). Once again, when it came time to screw the top board (or maybe bottom?) to the vertical board, I realized there was no pre-drilled hole! The 9-year old had the best view (and better vision) and noticed immediately that the pre-drilled hole was on the wrong side. So we detached the screws (again) and turned the board around (I was so sure I had it right this time, too.) And the re-screwing was far quicker. But... you guessed it, I had the finished side (only one of the four sides was finished) pointing the wrong direction... so we backtracked. Again.Eventually, the 9-year old wandered off to play with his brother. He told me I should be more careful. Duly noted. And I urged him to keep that play appointment in the other room - pronto. So, with careful re-reading of the instructions (in three languages!) and diligence with the post-it notes (that kept sliding off the slick finish), I continued to assemble the shelf-unit. With only one near amputation when the "real wood!" board (probably that stupid fixed shelf, or maybe it was the vertical divider) slid out of my grip and landed faint millimeters from my toe. That board was heavy, too! It even shook the house! Of course it did.Anyway, I counted and there were precisely eighteen "assembly screws" and not one more and not one less. I guarded them with my life, counting before and after every potty break and coffee run. Finally, with the unit mostly assembled, I came to the "backing" (which turned out to be a folded piece of cardboard-hey, what happened to the "real wood"?). And it turned out, there were only three, despite the fact there were six openings. And now you know my sense of "style" is as absent as my spatial ability. Covering only three of the six squares provides a unique "look" - at least to all non-OCD customers. Nevertheless, I persisted. Each piece of folded cardboard was nailed down with, I kid you not, 12 teeny pin-like nails, called "nails" in the instructions (Ciou, Ciavo, Nail - that whole 3 languages thing). And these things were designed by an absolute 4-star genius. Imagine the amount of research it must have taken to size these pins to the exact the depth of my thumb! I was in awe. Because that precision measurement resulted in me not being able to even "start" the nail without slamming into my thumb. Thirty-six times, if you don't count all the ones that fell out before I could get the nail stabilized. I checked for "hacks to avoid hitting your thumb" on my phone, after only five or six nails (I told you I was smart) and discovered that you can hold a nail between the teeth of your comb (or your husband's comb, if he is not at home). Bonus, as you are pounding the bejabbers out of everything in the vicinity of your microscopic nail-pin, the comb appears to act as a protective agent for the shelf (or maybe it was the horizontal divider). The comb, however, did turn out to be mostly a total loss. But I did it. I assembled a "some assembly required" shelving unit and it only took me six hours.PS - you may need ice for the finger you forgot to move during the flailing/so-called hammering you did prior to the comb hack.PPS - and save the ice because it turns out that all those boards nailed together are far heavier than the single board that missed your toe earlier.Enjoy!

Okay, but needs better packing
First, I ordered a used one that was described as “like new.” When it arrived, I saw it was damaged. I couldn’t tell if it was already like that, or if it happened during shipping. The box from the manufacturer had been put in an Amazon box twice its size, with no bubble wrap or packing pillows, so no way of knowing. The shelves were badly scratched up and a lot of the hardware was missing, so I returned it and ordered a new one. Amazingly, it also arrived in its original box and inside a much larger Amazon box with no packing materials. The inside box was damaged, of course. The cardboard backing that goes on the back of the shelves was ruined and there were some scratches on the actual shelves, but I decided I didn’t need the backing since I was using fabric bins in it and I managed to put the scratched surface where it doesn’t show. They’re easy to assemble and sturdy enough for what I needed, so I’m mostly happy with them.

I was truly disappointed that it arrived damaged from such a reputable place only 2 hours away.
I got 2 of these, 1 slightly damaged. While I'll find a way to hide it I'm truly disappointed. Otherwise the product was exactly as I expected. Although the "safety anchor" is shown positioned on the bottom, so worst "safety" ever. Glad I'm smart enough to do it the correct way and added my own extra safety.

made of pressed cardboard bound together by snot with possibly reused fasteners
I've lived with flat-pack particle board furniture much if not most of my life. I even currently have two Walmart flat-pack bookshelves. I thought I was well-prepared for fragile, ill-fitting stuff with sketchy pot-metal fasteners.I was apparently incorrect.More than half the screws were... corroded; red rust is part of the corrosion, but there are other colors that are new to my corrosion experience. The plastic screw covers also don't fit flush. 3 of the main panels were damaged, and all of the cardboard backer panels, as well; the package was not damaged, so I can only assume were boxed that way. I went to tip the partial construction up to better get at the last panel, taking all due care... and the screws at the very first join blew out the face of the panel, sideways. One of the "short dowels" was broken in half in the package, clearly visible immediately upon first look at the hardware bag; the only reason that didn't leave me short of that part was that two extra dowels were included for "stacking", and I had no intention of doing that. The only "spare" hardware was two extra tiny nails for the cardboard backers.I got it together, in the end, and was able to hide all the damage sufficiently, but good grief, y'all, I guess you get what you pay for.

Easy Essemble. Delivery Beware.
Easy to assemble, took about 30 minutes maybe? Ordered two. One came fine, the other got delivered with a corner damaged but thankfully it's in a spot you cant see.

Excellent product, fair price.
I now have six of these making up my "expandable" library. Easy to assemble and hold their weight in books, even when stacked on their side, three high. stacked. The ones I ordered just weeks ago are a perfect match for those I've had for a number of years. When I ordered this time, I had to guess as to who made the ones already in use.

A neat and colourful shelving unit.
I was pleasantly surprised how well the 12 cube organiser was made. The instructions were clear and were written in real English by someone that seemed to actually have put a Cubical together! No part of the Cubical had any damage from being dropped or similar... AND everything fitted! The big shelves without backs did allow things to be pushed all the way through, which is fine against a wall etc, but with mine I had it positioned in front of a sliding door, i.e. where the door slides away from an opening and I didn't want any thing falling out in front of the door and blocking it, I got some plastic 'skirting board' to nail a lip on the bottom back side of each open hole. This worked well with some 'Alsapan' storage boxes, I had six of these in different colours. The unit was provided with fittings to allow this Cubeical to be put on top of another one or have another put on top of it.I have had quite a few positive comments about the Cubeical, and it has provided some colourful and practical shelving.

Wonder how bad they'll be in another 10 years. Probably a card board cut out by then.
10 years ago i bought a 9 cube, for a lot less than they are going for now, it was sturdy and held up well. I needed more space in the closet so decided to buy a 8 cube. Its amazing how in ten years cheap furniture has become more expensive yet way less sturdy and just junky. I noticed a comment that said they only use like one coat of paint now, yep! Good thing it's going in the closet. I guess 15 cents more worth of paint is just too much money for a company to spend! Some of the peg holes were drilled too deep so if you put the peg in it went right down like wow! Those pegs are supposed to hold the whole thing together. also somehow i got a gap as if the shelf was cut too short by an 8th tapering to an 16th'' so I hope it holds up! I think Ill tip it sideways put some weight on and try gluing it, what fun. Also I went to put the stabilizing bracket on and it was broken in half right out of the package, the cheap plastic piece wouldn't of held up anyway. The directions say you need a hammer and a screwdriver, I say add glue, clamps, filler, and a new stabilizer bracket to that list as well.

Wash all parts thoroughly before assembling
Put it together and noticed my hands were black. Washed hands for a good three minutes and they were still stained.Wiped down all surfaces with slightly moistend towels, pictured with hands after washing a second time. Took Lysol wipes to it after that because I care a lot more about the clothes I'm putting on it than if I damage the finish and got a bit more of the black dye out. We use it with baskets as I still wouldn't trust leaving clothes in direct contact with the product.I was ok with the thing looking like garbage, it's meant to be in the closet. But, a closet shelf that destroys clothes you put on it is triggering the "you had one job" clause.

Un buen aliado para organizar
Me parece que fue fácil de armar, el acabado es bonito y de buena apariencia. Lo compré para organizar los juguetes de mi hijo y realmente quedé complacida. Lo recomiendo.

6 stars!
Wonderful, easy to assemble, brilliant instructions, look good.I fixed them to the wall in case my grandson decided to climb but they are probably sturdy enough for normal use without that in normal circumstances. Wall fixing is included though for safety reasons.
