Introduction to Healthcare for Spanish-speaking Interpreters and Translators (Not in series)

The book is written in a way that is comprehensible for people who do not have an extensive background knowledge of medicine. The chapters include not only the systems of the body, but also practical information such as how health care insurance works in the U.S. and the role of culture in the work of the interpreter. The teacher of the course I'm taking to be a Medical Interpreter recommended the book and I'm glad I bought it because it is a good reference source to understand the various systems in the body. As far as the glossary goes, I find it lacking in many terms that I will have to know in Spanish. I can guess some of the translations because I have a good background in Spanish, but I need to be certain that the terms are correct. It is helpful that the edition I have includes the Spanish equivalents in each chapter, but I find that only about 1/3 of the terms I need to know are in this book. My next purchase will be a good medical bilingual dictionary.

This is a great book if you are planning to become a medical interpreter and your native language is Spanish. If you need to focus on you Spanish vocab, this is not the book for you.

I bought the English only, as soon as it was printed, and I thought 'if I can could get the translated version in Spanish ", I kept waiting for it, and here we have the one for professional Spanish speaking Medical Interpreters and Translators . It is a a must to have edition, a fantastic tool to learn and to refresh our knowledge.Holly Mickelson does a fantastic job as she did with her other books.I believe that all interpreters have to be also experienced translators to preform better ,specially for sight translations. Translators do not need to know interpretation.

This is an excellent resource for new and experienced Spanish interpreters. The information can be used to prep for the National Certification Exams.
