This product works - here's how to make it work
I just finished installing this product in my truck, and I'm using it to communicate between a Kenwood DDX9704S head unit and a universal steering wheel button add-on kit. My truck did not have factory steering wheel controls, so I purchase the universal steering wheel buttons (they're battery powered, with two button pads that stick in place on the steering wheel). Once the SWI-CP5 was programmed, the universal steering wheel buttons were able to communicate with the Kenwood head unit. I'll update the post if the product fails, but for now it is working well.My wiring details are below - use at your own risk. What worked for me may not work for you. Verify all connections before making them.Wiring the universal steering wheel controls receiver:Red wire - connect to ignition controlled accessory 12v (ACC 12V+)Black wire - connect to GroundGray wire - connect to "White (-) Analog SWC Input 1" on the PAC-Audio SWI-CP5White wire - connect to "White/Black (-) Analog SWC Input 2" on the PAC-Audio SWI-CP5PAC-Audio has incredibly detailed instructions, so it would be best to follow their instructions and download their mobile app to assist with your install. How I wired the SWI-CP5 for my setup:Black Wire - connect to groundYellow Wire - connect to a constant 12v supplyRed wire - connect to ignition controlled accessory 12v (ACC 12V+)White wire - connect to Gray wire of the wireless steering wheel button receiverWhite/Black wire - connect to White wire of the wireless steering wheel button receiverBlue/Yellow wire - connect this to the SWC (Steering Wheel Controls) input wire that is part of the wire bundle coming out of the back of the Kenwood head unit.No other connections were required for this setup with the Kenwood unit.Programming the SWI-CP5 to work with the universal wireless steering wheel controls:Again, PAC-Audio has incredibly detailed instructions. If you follow their manual programming steps you'll be fine, and since they are quite detailed, I'll omit them here. However, here are some pointers:-Dip Switches on the SWI-CP5 should all be in the OFF (up) position. Even the 4 dip switches that are used for radio selection should be in the OFF position for manual programming.-there is a short and long press programming feature available for the SWI-CP5. When programming the short press buttons, do not immediately release the button when the chime is heard. You want to hold it for another second or so, but not so long that you hear the long chime (which indicates you just programmed that button to be a long press feature). If you release any of the buttons too soon, the SWI-CP5 will give you an error once programming is complete. Simply try again, with better timing on the short press buttons. It took me 5 tries to figure it out and finally get it right.

Buggy with 2014 F150
Not all advertised features functioned with 2014 F150 and Alpine double din ILX 670. Used recommended 1/8 plug to 3 wire adapter for SWC and a lot of random things happened or didn’t when buttons were pushed. Verified all wiring and grounds and ended up giving up on it.8/10/24 - new install attempt after PAC tech bulletin addresses specifically ILX 670. Still disappointing results, steering wheel controls appear to function but device putting out constant volume down signal making it still useless

PAC SWI-CP5 made what was supposed to be pain in the a** take minimal time. A+
SWIs are not very fun. But this one took the cake for me.First of all the instructions were super clear about some wires, its because there were two wires meant for accessory but one is meant for fancy cars like Mercedes. Contacted tech support via chat, I got clear-direct-to the point answers from a guy who clearly knows the product well. A+The install (assuming you have your car prepped and ready, took no time. The programming did fail on the first try, no big deal (i used the web-app), but it worked perfectly 30 seconds later on my second attempt. Not enough of an inconvenience to knock off a star.Next, you can program each SWI input signal to do long presses and short press functions (depending on your head unit). This was FANTASTIC to do in a web app rather than doing blindly by following blinks and what not. A+If im going to do this again on another car, im buying this same unit again. Breeze.

One let-down after another (PAC SWI-CP5 on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland)
When you upgrade the original equipment stereo in your older vehicle, in most cases you'll find that the buttons on the steering wheel that used to control your old stereo don't work with your new stereo. To get your steering wheel control (SWC) buttons to work, you'll need an adapter module. The PAC SWI-CP5 is one of several options. In my case, I was installing a Dual Electronics DCPA81W ( https://amzn.to/3zwpvUb ) an inexpensive but amazing, 8-inch touch screen stereo that brought my 20+ year-old Jeep into the modern era, including features like Apple Car Play.Adapter modules like this face a big challenge because there are so many different makes, models, and years of vehicles and so many different makes, models, and years of stereo systems. There are hundreds of possible wiring combinations. To get around this, you program the adapter module using dip switches or softare to connect your specific vehicle's SWC wiring to your specific stereo's inputs. You get the programming instructions after you enter your vehicle and stereo info on the adapeter manufacturer's website.I first checked PAC's website to make sure that this module was compatible with my vehicle and stereo.I'm a technically competent guy, and good at following directions. But, for me, the PAC SWI-CP5 was one letdown after another.1. The QR code on the package is supposed to link to the PAC iPhone app, but it took me to a strange website that had nothing to do with car audio.2. The app, which is supposed to allow you program the PAC SWI-CP5 from your iPhone, didn't detect the PAC SWI-CP5 after I connected it physically using my own lighting-to-USB cable to the supplied USB cable for the PAC SWI-CP5. I had to default to setting up the PAC SWI-CP5 using the dip switches. (And yes, I made sure I wasn't using a charging-only cable.)3. After setting the dip switches, the app then shows you how to wire the PAC SWI-CP5 into your vehicle's stereo wiring. In my case, it said I needed to connect 4 wires from the vehicle to 4 wires on the adapter: black to black, red/white to yellow, white/red to red, and yellow/purple to purple. The yellow/purple to purple is the key connection because that's the one that carries the data from the steering wheel control buttons. (Apparently, in my car, pushing one of the SWC buttons creates a signal of a specific voltage that lets the adapter know what to do.) But my car didn't have the yellow/purple wire.I tried the manfacturer's website to troubleshoot, but it didn't provide any more information.

Very easy to program..
I bought the PAC-CP5 because it was specifically for my Audi, programming is done by dip switches, toggle the switches for your car and brand of aftermarket radio, and programming is done, simple! Once installed and programmed, all actions done on your steering wheel controls will register a flashing green LED on the CP5, set your radio for steering wheel programming, set your functions the way you want it and you're all set..
