Excellent well presented and informative guide
If like me, you have never taken a computer course and basically learnt the hard way, having to use computers at work, then this book helps cover the cracks and valuably assists in problem solving. The chapters are very clearly laid out and the step by step guides are easy to follow. Add to this crystal clear illustrations and simple jargon busting and you have an excellent guide to refer to, both for problem solving and for step by step learning. Faithe Wempen and her colleagues are to be congratulated on providing such an easy to follow help guide and I can recommend the book unreservedly. readers should note that the book is geared towards the Windows 8.1 operating system but most of the chapters have a much wider context, so even if you are running Windows 7 say, you will find much useful information.

Comprehensive beginners guide
A large thick heavy book but very easy to navigate to what you want. Having had it for a month I am still only skimming the surface. It is divided into 3 basic sections: the computer and it's systems, Microsoft programmes, and the internet. Each section is then divided further so that, for example, I have been working through the one on Microsoft spread sheets and I am finding it very simple to work through from the basics to quite complicated functions. I doubt anyone would read the whole book but would skim those parts not relevant to them and then work through in detail the sections they need. Until Microsoft change everything again, I don't think you would need any more to get you started on any aspect of computers, Microsoft programmes, or the internet

Useful....I'm going to spend a lot of time with this guide....
This is a large text book type book....it is easy to use in that the chapters are well set out and it has a good contents and index section...The book covers all aspects of computing for the windows user and there is a good section on using windows 8.1.The book has good sections on excel etc which I found really useful and I am going to go back to and practice.I have found it to be useful when looking at a problem I was encountering at start up...it seems to have helped me to fix it.The book is easy to follow and has good screen shots to help you too. At the end of each section there is a part for self testing that is also useful.I would say that this is good to explain newer office programs and to help a complete novice or someone who knows a bit but wants to know more. For GCSE I would also say that it would be useful too.I'm going to spend a lot more time with this book and it's going to be really useful in the further development of my computing skills.I highly recommend it...
