True to life...
Teaching moments come when you least expect them. This darling book is true to life. Beautifully illustrated the book captures a snapshot moment...and the imagination of 2 little boys curious to learn that while their body parts may look a little different, they work exactly the same. The author thoughtfully normalizes the boys unique appearance with an honest, thoughtful, yet uncomplicated quietude. A great gift!

As a parent, grandparent, auntie, uncle, godparent or family friend you’ve got the perfect gift!
HELMETS AND HOSES A perfect companion book for growing up as a boy in charge of understanding his own body. Without judgement or criticism, this witty and clever story of too young friends notice their private parts look a bit different. The simple truth and explanation of differences in the two approaches to human body, helps the reader to understand the ‘cloaked’ vs. the ‘uncloaked’ versions of the male hardware. This comfortable and stress-free explanation is offered up with humor and speaks in the language of children. You will be happy for the easy education of this charming tale.

Making light of a child's pain
ETA: it's also not done "very carefully". The healthy tissue is crushed and sliced off all the while baby is screaming and strapped down on a mideivil looking torture device. The boy is concerned about the unnecessary pain that his mother put him through and the mother smiles about it? This seems extremely cruel to me. I don't think there is a mother alive that would smile when thinking about their child being strapped down and having a scalpel taken to their body. Then she proceeded to talk about HER "personal" reasons for circumcising HIM. As if he isn't the person who has to live with her "decision".I can definitely tell that this was written from the perspective of someone who cut their little boy. Will be asking for a refund.

Got this book for my daughter
I have been trying to fill my daughter's book shelf with stories/books that teach her about great female role models, dealing with emotions, and body positivity. I feel that part of teaching her body positivity is to teach her how all people are different but they are all still the same. I would like to do this without a big sit down talk, so mixing in a few books to our story time makes it an easy to understand, no-fuss conversation. And that is exactly what this book does. Makes the conversation effortless, clear, and with the proper body names. Bought a few to hand out to friends too! A+ writing and great illustrations!

Nice book
Gave this to my nephew. He was not circumcised like his older brother . I wanted him to know about his intact status and how it might look different than his friends or brother.

Informative, good explanation
Paperback. Good examples of likes and differences in body parts. Uses correct terminology. Illustration appropriate for age and subject matter. NO drawings of penis so not inappropriate. It is a difficult topic to discuss so it was a great way to open communication.

This is the sweetest book! Insightful!!!
I love this topic! In my own life, I observed a little boy shaming another boy who was different. This book it a great tool for young families to have the conversation about differences and similarities and to stop body shaming.

It's about time!
I love this book! The artwork is adorable, but the message is so important because there is so much bullyiing going on. Just because people look different or their penis' (or their boobs) look different doesn't mean there is something wrong or weird. Just like all the different toes and noses and colors and shapes out there...we should embrace our differences!
