pretty good
This is a pretty good, short and sweet style book dealing with the subject of communication. It’s a subject that I’ve personally been interested in for a while and this book did not disappoint. If I had one nitpick, it would be that most of the points are very general in scope, which isn’t a bad thing at all. This book to me seems to be for an audience that is very new to concepts in communication. If you want to go deeper however, I’d probably look elsewhere. But if you’re not even aware of the general concepts of starting a conversation, then by all means pick up this book. You have to start somewhere, and it’s a pretty pleasant and fast read.

Stating the Obvious
I am an introvert and struggle to make small talk with people so I bought this book. I wish my library had this instead of having to buy it because although the book makes some good suggestions, they are geared toward someone who struggles with the most fundamental of social interactions. I could see this book as beneficial not for those who don't like to make small talk or struggle with banal banter, but more for those who have horrible social anxiety or for people new to America and looking for ways to strike up the meaningless polite exchanges expected of us in our culture when we meet someone for the first time or are trying to make small talk with a stranger.

Must Read!!!
I have picked up this book several times to refer to. I am studying abroad in Austria and was having a hard time connecting with new people in a new city. This book is very helpful and is to me, very straight forward facts. But I find that being reminded of them and actively trying to use them helped me so much!

Good for helping with self conscious about talking with others
The author had some good tips for battling shyness and being self conscious when talking to others. He shares his own experiences, and has some good ideas for keeping conversations going.
