If you watched Dragonball Z a long time ago, now you can do it again
It's exactly like I remember it from watching Dragonball Z when I was 4 years old, and I mean exactly like it. I purchased this primarily out of nostalgia, and it does serve that purpose. The reason for the average rating is because the quality of the video is analagous to that of what you would get if you recorded it on a VHS off of TV. I wasn't expecting it to appear remastered, but I have have actual VHS copies of Dragonball Z that are over 10 years old now that look better than this. So an A for content but a D- for presentation.

i like DBZ but not when its censored
not when its censored. this verison was done by Pioneer Animation thats why there is no uncensored version of it. Personaly i think its a waste of resources and money, to put an uncensored verion of a movie or a series in a DVD. but Pioneer Animation messed up and did that. This volume starts the whole DBZ series. this is where we first learn Goku's reala origin. it picks up where the regular Dragonball left off, for those of you that are familiar with the regular Dragonball. this volume goes by so fast because a lot of things happen in such a short time. GOku's brother comes to earth to remind him of his true identity, that all saiyans are born to dominate and destroy the weak. Goku being the defender of the weak, has to defend his home along with a very unlikey ally...

Beginning of the Dragonball Z saga!
The first story on this dvd is kind of like a reunion tour. All of the characters from the Dragonball series reunite on Master Roshi's island to catch up with each other. This is where they are introduced to Gohan, the son of Goku. Goku's long lost brother shows up shortly after and ruins the party. I would advise anyone who has been following the story on TV to pick up this dvd to see where everything started from. My only complaint about it would be that the little Gohan can be a little too whiny and annoying at times. Overall a great purchase!

My love for this show is OVER 9000!! (What, 9000?!)
I can't believe how long I spent looking for the original DVDs, but I am over the moon that this one is available.I watched Dragonball Z on Cartoon Network (in the UK) when it began and I have been a fan ever since. This is truly one of the ultimate classic animes, especially for the western audience, as despite the large amounts of cut footage and censoring, it is still a brilliantly well made, perfectly drawn and fantastically well written piece of entertainment. This DVD has about 4 episodes on it, they all sort of run into one (there is only one intro and one outro on the dvd) and they go from the start of the Dragonball Z series to the *SPOILERS* end of Raditz and Goku's departure on Snake Way. As expected, the quality is magnificent, the art is clear and smooth and the audio is of good quality. This series is brilliant; old fans (especially those from the UK) will love this DVD and it is obviously the right one to get if you're a new fan or wanting to get into the series. If you haven't seen Dragonball, you may start off quite confused (I remember thinking "LOLWHUT this must be like half way through the series, I've missed this guy's growing up...") but don't worry, I never saw Dragonball and don't particularly want to (Vegeta is only in this series XD) and I caught up fast. Since this is a sequel anime, it has the same characters as the original series, but only references the previous series a little. You don't need to have seen all of Dragonball to enjoy Dragonball Z.Now this may be of importance to seasoned fans. This DVD is the first of the Ocean Studios/Pioneer dub of Dragonball Z. NOT FUNIMATION. They are the producers or something, but this DEFINATELY has the original Canadian voices (most notably Brian Drummond as Vegeta; the legendary guy who did the "over nine thousaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand!" line XD). Anyone looking for the Funimation (Chris Sabat as Vegeta) DVDs will find them more easily, as the Ocean dub ones were put out of production a long time ago. The first reviewer said that this has the Funi voices; I can assure you it does not. Fans who watched DBZ in England originally and want to watch the same episodes and voices as you did then - this is the DVD for you. I cannot make this more clear. ^__^So to clarify:Animation: 5/5 - very clear, smooth and easy to watch (heavily censored though, there is little to no blood and scenes from Goku's rowdy childhood have quite clearly been altered to omit certain body parts, thankfully XD)Sound: 5/5 - Ocean Studios fans will love it, Funi fans probably won't. The music is not the original music either (most of Ocean's music for this was taken from other shows like Monster Rancher, probably because they couldn't get the licensing for it) but if this is what you watched on tv then the music and voices will bring back good memories ^^Extras: 0/5 - to put it bluntly, there are none. This is a very simple DVD with just the episodes, intro and outro and scenes from the next episodes on it, no Japanese audio, no subtitles, no trailers. But for the price, I can't see that mattering. If you want Ocean, this is all you're gonna get. XDSheer Awesomeness: 5/5 - I am so happy to have found the original DVD, I could cry. But then I might get laughed at so I won't. Seriously though, I am totally thrilled to be able to watch these episodes again and will now begin the hunt for volume 2: The Saiyans!Thank you wherehouse us!~MrsChumphy, AKA Rachel Clarke.
