light-hearted, funny read with a deep complex plot
A nice, if somewhat geeky and accident-prone kid gets sucked into a crazy adventure when he tries to do the right thing. He stumbles into one disaster after another, and somehow, with a little help from his friends as well as some from unexpected places, manages to help save the world - or at least New York. A bit kooky at times, this book takes the outlandishly ridiculous and manages to make it not just believable, but also heartfelt. It is the kind of book that throws all the tropes on their head. It's a coming of age story with involved, intelligent parents. A chosen one story, where the chose one isn't the hero. A hidden world urban fantasy where the magic regularly (and messily) spills out into the mundane world. A teenage romance that is more about partnership than passion. A goofy YA fantasy that gets gritty and dark, and sometimes hits uncomfortable truths. If you are looking for a fast-moving, action filled, light-hearted, funny read with a deep and complex plot and some serious darkness of far reaching consequence that builds through the series and will hit you square in the feels, this is it. The audio version is narrated by Jacob McNatt who did an excellent job with it. His voice perfectly capture what I envisioned of the characters. Highly recommend listening to it if you enjoy audio books.

Compelling read
Bryant Adams was a dork. No doubt about it. At least he had a cool friend and a crush on the coolest girl in school. Then he happened on a cellular phone left behind in a cab and the nerd turned into a geek wizard.S'trues Bob!Life will never be the same again for them. In fact, life became rather fantastical and very much life threatening in a weird set of events you would not have wished to have happened to anybody at all.And for one reader (me) this box set became another compulsive YA fantasy read. Lol.Enjoy

The best new thing I've read in years!
This is the best thing I've read in a very long time. I was hooked from the very beginning. The characters are developed well and grow over time. The story is worthy of the effort of reading it. In other words it is not trite. It is the grand story of someone who knows nothing about magic, who has no aspirations to greatness, as he becomes great, not in his own eyes but in the eyes of those who know him and associate with him. An epic drama, told in a simple, straight forward manner. A friendly story that surpasses its wildest expectations. In other words, I think you will like it, a lot!

Delightful light fantasy
Well-written first-person modern urban fantasy. Great read when looking to relax.

Slow Start, But a Wonderful Bundle
For me, this was a 5-star level of enjoyment, but I knocked off a star for the first book's incredibly awkward start. That start was so slow, and lasted so long, that I very nearly didn't bother to keep reading to the good part -- and I don't often give up on a book. That would've been a shame, because the good part is a great pleasure.

This is a keeper
Kind of a slow start but it just kept getting better and better. Really original story line although it takes a little while to realize that. This is one of my favorites.

Fun, fast paced, modern magic and YA fantasy
4.5 stars overall for the completes series. This is a great YA fantasy, full of wizards and magic in modern day New York. Bryant, his friends, and his mentor deal with a wide variety of magical happenings - some of them on the lighter side, others much darker, and more menacing. The story has a good tone for younger readers, early to mid teens who love fantasy should really love this series for everything it offers. The characters are great, the magical system is quite interesting - not to mention an unlimited library of spells housed on a magical cell phone. Plus, we get an aspect here that we don’t in many YA fantasy novels - the parents, even though not magical, are part of the story, more so as the series progresses, but they are definitely a driving force in certain aspects, and it’s something, to see how they react to this magical world their son is becoming more and more involved in. We also get some pretty significant character development with Bryant’s best friend, and his girlfriend, which only adds to the depth of the story. The stories are ultimately a lot of fun, with just that touch of darkness to really make them grab your attention and not let go.

Enjoyable Tale Of Muddling Through
An entertaining sequence of disastrous misadventures. Keeps up the interest with wondering what will happen next and how will they survive.

Wow
This series was extremely well written. It actually spoke about the trauma they were all fighting with and how it affected them, instead of just glossing over it and moving on. Bryant’s parents were probably my favourite side characters, unbelievably supportive while at the same time trying to protect their son and his friends from something they couldn’t understand.I will definitely be going back to re-read this in the future
