Surprisingly well-made and easy to assemble
The chair has tongue-and-groove construction to give additional stability. It is very sturdy both as a chair and a ladder. The instructions were easy to follow and assembly took far less time than I expected.

Satisfied
As the photo indicates, I wanted to use this convertible chair as shelving, and I'm happy with it. But it wasn't so easy to assemble, because some of the pre-drilled holes were not deep enough to accommodate the screws that come with the chair. The enclosed screws were flat-bottomed, so it wasn't possible simply to keep turning the screwdriver until the screws' heads were flush with the wood surfaces. The screws would only go as far as the pre-drilled holes allowed. We substituted pointed screws of the same length and that allowed us to complete the assembly. Once assembled, I liked the look and found it quite sturdy.

lower quality than expected
We noticed some damage to the wood upon opening the box. More importantly, the hooks designed to keep it secured as a chair do not close, so when you pick it up, it just starts to unfold. My daughter's shins were banged and fingers got pinched when she tried to pick it up to move it. We were excited to get it, but are ultimately disappointed.

Sturdy, well built

Uncomfortable
Chair was difficult to get the frame lined up for the screws and then the locking devices wouldn’t line up properly. The back is too straight up which makes it very uncomfortable to sit on.

Nice looking chair
The chair was relatively straightforward to assemble and all the parts fit well together, with the exception of one of the two lock lever bolts which is misaligned and doesn't lock. Overall weighs 20 pounds assembled. I'm happy with the purchase.

Almost a Good Product
Like the fact that it is real wood and not composite material. The color is OK. Several important negative issues: 1) many screw holes were in slightly the wrong location, requiring me to re-drill them to get the hinges and latches attached. 2) The large screws holding the main uprights to the steps and back are too long for their holes 3) it wobbles because the one of the legs is about 1/8 of an inch too short. This is probably due to poor alignment of the screw holes and the slots for the steps do not align properly either. 4) the screws are made of very low quality metal and the heads easily strip. 5) the finished chair/step stool needs to be about 10% bigger. Even my wife who is only 5 foot 6 and is skinny has trouble using it because of its size.

not easy to put together
This is not easy to put together. The manufacturer drilled step #7 upside down; I had to drill the proper holes. Some holes weren't drilled deep enough for the fasteners. I had the file the edges of the square protrusions on step #8 to get them to fit into the rounded slots in the frame. I had to chisel the chair seat to insert one of the hinges. I should have gotten a left latch and a right latch but got two that were the same; only one latch can be hooked to keep the stool in its chair position.
