Who needs any other Rite in the Rain.
This would be my second Rite in the Rain Geological Field Book. If your doing anything geology field related, it is the perfect rite in the rain. It is compact so you can put it in a field vest with no issues. It is light, yet sturdy. I sometimes use the spine of the book to move dirt and rocks out of the way and it withstands the punishment. It can also be used as a writing surface if need be, and the covers will never warp, bend, break, or in anyway let you down.My first rite in the rain was purchased back in 2008 when I took field geology. I used it all throughout field and then some for other geo field trips and never had an issue. The reference items in the back are by far the best part of this rite in the rain. Others that I have seen do not come with this, and when you are in pinch out in the field this thing comes in handy. Need to do a quick QAP? No problem. Need to know relative compositions? No problem! Are you a noob and forgot you geological time scale? Got it right in the back. Need a scale for pictures? Look no further. Forgot what size grains qualify it as gravel, cobbles, or a boulder? Just look in the back mijo, its all there! Oh yeah, and it really does live up to its name: you can write in the rain all you want with no problems, kickin butt the whole time.Don't waste your time with anyother size rite in the rain: 8 1/2 x 11 is way to big to carry around and is in no way as sturdy as this one, and it doesnt come with any of the reference pages. The small three ring binder type rite in the rains are clumsy, and you need to replace individual sheets. No thank you.If you are in school getting your geology degree (great field by the way), or even out in the field working and making money, its a perfect companion for taking notes. Buy this and you will not be sad.

Good product, a bit on the expensive side for a notebook
The product works well for writing in the rain but the only reason I would recommend this one (geological) compared to a much much cheaper rite in the rain is if you *REALLY* need the extra stuff in the back. It has some information about rocks, grain sizing, and a pocket for a plastic scale (which was nice and used a lot). But if you already know that stuff, save yourself the $10 and just get a regular rite in the rain. But it did withstand a lot and rain/sweat/general abuse from the field and school stuff. After my field classes I ended up getting rid of the notebook because I didn't care to keep the information I collected, but I did keep the plastic scale north arrow that came with it.

A mi novia le gustó
ella es Paleontóloga y la usó en trabajo de campo a tres mil metros de altura en un desierto y bajo tormentas muy intensas. Le sirvió mucho

but this model has been more useful to me than most
I have used these books in a variety of field settings. Rite in the Rain has rarely failed me with their quality, but this model has been more useful to me than most. As a young geologist, my research has already taken me to many different types of research and field locals. There are many field guides and reference books that a person can buy for the field, but it is nice to have the universal reference essentials in the back of a single book that also can house your data. These references include common abbreviations and map symbols that we use, QAPF diagram, sandstone ternary diagrams, comparison charts for sizes and percentages, and sedimentary nomenclature diagrams. Additionally, having the timescale and a photo scale always with you is very handy. More than once I have accidentally left my SEPM or GSA photo scales somewhere and utilized the one in the back of the book. The only change that I personally would have liked to have seen in the book would be to have some of the more common phase diagrams (e.g. feldspars and pyroxenes, etc.). Those would have been useful in the field for my volcanics research.

excellent field book
Before using this field book, I was using an engineering book provided for my first geology course that had some field work... it was quite a bit cheaper.I do like this book significantly more. As it is actually FOR geology, the "cheat sheets" in the back are actually relevant. My engineering book had trig formulas. This book has tables on grains size, rock categorization, the geologic time scale, and so on. Typically students tape in tese sorts of charts, I only had a few additions I added to the back for reference. The charts are definitely valuable!Overall I would say it's very sturdy. I've used it *every* weekend in the field thus far - which has caused it to see both rain and a dust storm. I throw it every which way and it has held up fine. I write primarily in pencil, and despite the rain the pencil seems to have remained legible.I'm leaving it as four stars though, as this book is supposed to be **completely** waterproof. After the first day of *light* rain the pages all took on a wavy, warped appearance - they didn't soak or anything and did repel the water, however. Overall my notes have remained fine despite more severe rain.

Solid book. Waterproof 💯. Never fails
Likes. It's sturdy. The binding has held up to the weather in high desert Nevada. Wet pouring rain Oregon. And Humid and hot California. In the rain snow sun it hasn't failed me. I love rite in the rain and this hard back version is great for what I do for surveying. I wish they made a survey version in hard back but I've yet to find one with the right line seperation for all my data.
