These sponges are ok but they are rough and scratchy and wear out quickly. They are not very absorbent.

Made in China, these natrual sponges are pretty darned good! I'm new to the natural sponges and decided to try some out. I typically use the yellow sponges with the green scrubby side. So, I decided to give these a try and low and behold, they work very well! They work about like the yellow ones and scrub my sink, counter and stove top well. The thing is that with the yellow ones, even though I always keep them in my sink organizer where they can drain, they get pretty slimy and stinky within a very short period of time--like a couple of days. Ewwwwww... These sponges get put into the organizer to drain and even after a week there was no odor and they were not slimy! This is amazing! They fit my hand just as well as the other sponges and they just work. I also wanted the chain mail for my little cast iron skillet. It is only a 6 inch skillet but works really nicely for a scrambled egg in the morning. This one was used for a grilled cheese, heavy on the cheese and was a bit crusty so I I wanted to try the chain mail on it. You can see from the picture that the chain mail is pretty small. It doesn't quite cover the bottom of my little pan but it did do the job and my pan is back to being without grilled cheese crusties again. Yay! And it is still seasoned--double yay! So, I like that chain mail for my cast iron. I think the pricing on these sponges at the time of this review at just over $1 each is pretty good. It's about double what I pay for the yellow sponges but the yellow ones do get stinky have to be dealt with regularly. These natural sponges don't seem to degrade and get nasty and seem to be lasting just as well as the yellow sponges so that's good for me. And the chain mail did it's job for my adorable little pan so that's a win. Recommend.

I can't really prove it's biodegradable but if it's really made with wood cellulose and coconut fiber, it certainly should be. I'm glad to see these. The sponges are effective, absorb well and quickly. They feel plenty strong for the job. The scrubby side is plenty scrubby-like but does feel a lot less abrasive than a new plastic-sided sponge. It seems to be working as well as one. The chainmail scrubber - I'll never let cast iron get to looking like what they showed in the picture but it's still useful for normal cleaning, if you have something particularly stubborn. These scrubbers are much better for cleaning the bits off without stripping the seasoning. Yeah, quite pleased with these. Just wish they were priced a bit more reasonably for the average person to be able to afford so we can get more people into being more Earth-responsible. I've been using one of these sponges for a couple of weeks to see how well it stood up to use. It's been doing fine, wearing out about as fast as the synthetic sponges I'm used to. The sponge part is very absorbent, and the scouring side is about as tough and "scrubby" as the ScotchBrite side of regular sponges. This scouring side does occasionally shed some coconut fibers, but that's no big deal. My complaint with this product is the chainmail scrubber. It's small, and if you've got a cast iron skillet you've probably already got one of these that's bigger. And one of these will last a lifetime, so it's not like you need a new one every time you need new sponges. So with this package you're paying for something you almost certainly don't need.

This is a nice pack of sponges that represents a great value, and the inclusion of a chainmail scrubber for cast-iron, carbon steel, or stainless steel is a great addition if you have any of those items in your kitchen (I have and use all three regularly). The sponges themselves are pretty typical; there's a rough side to break away stuck on food grime (or other grime if you opt to use them for non-kitchen purposes), and a softer side to polish away and pick up any remnants. The rough side isn't too rough; it serves its purpose without damaging non-stick. The fact that they're biodegradable and made of natural plant fibers is great. They work, they're reasonably priced, and they're better for the environment. Not much more needs to be said!

I would love this to work and I love the packaging and the whole concept but it’s also an environmental point that the product should last long or at least more then two minutes…

About four months ago, I was offered a free ten pack of J&K Ink Natural Kitchen Sponges for review via the Amazon Vine Program, and I accepted. These sponges are very good and they last a good long time even with moderate daily use for cleaning pots, pans dishes and glasses. Even with that type of daily usage, they last easily over a month for me. After awhile, the scrubber side can get notty but if you're smart, you can just trim the knots off with a scissor and continue usage. Overall, these are very good kitchen sponges, much better than the brightly colored sponges I used to buy at the supermarket.
