Q: Can you turn the sound off

Yes you can turn the sound off. I accidentally figured it out when I was putting it up today. There are 6 AA batteries. Turn the power on to figure out the battery combo. Put the two bottom ones in and one of the side ones. It will turn on and run without music. The other 3 AA’s are for the music. So you can turn it off but you can’t lower it unfortunately. It’s pretty loud.

Q: How do I get the train to move? I just set it up but all it is doing is singing jingle bells. Help!

I think the smoke mechanism is tied to the motor for the wheels so that would make sense. I would set up a return through amazon saying the train was defective and order a new one with the refund.

Q: what material is it made of?

Plastic. Some light metal screws on the carriage wheels and some tiny metal fasteners, metal springs and contacts in the battery compartment.

Q: Has anyone ever tried using liquid smoke for model trains?

Yes, they sometimes come with a little container of some with the train set. It works great, you just need to be patient while it warms up.
