Not sure I understand the question...the string is attached to the tag and knotted on the end. You can either tie the string to your object or put the string through and stick the tag through the loop.

The string is about 4 1/2" from tag to knot and that's doubled up and it does not stretch.

Nothing is 12” on these tags. Refer to dimensions given. The string from the knot to the tag is approximately 5.5” long and the tag is approximately 1 1/8” x 1 3/4”.
