Introductory Physics with Algebra as a Second Language: Mastering Problem-Solving

Great book but incomplete
If you find yourself muddling through a horrible textbook that assumes you'll be able to follow along any leaps in logic and understanding, this book is a great supplement. It breaks everything down in a clear way and direct way, and it teaches you how to think CONCEPTUALLY about the problems, instead of just throwing an equation at you and expecting you to apply it mechanically. However, the material covered here is not sufficient for even a full semester of college physics, nevermind a a year (i.e. electromagnetism). It stops at torque and angular momentum. What about fluids, waves, sound and heat, which are par for the course in 1st semester intro physics?? The book is VERY slim, and in my mind does not justify the nearly $30 price tag.

AMAZING!!!
If your taking this class in college and are having difficultly GET THIS BOOK!I was skeptical when ordering this book. I just had a horrible experience in a basic level physics 100 level course at school.I don't have to retake the class but I do have a 200 level course to take Spring 2011, and decided to order this book to try to help me better understand what I screwed up on this past Fall Semester.I have just started to read this book. However, I started with areas that I failed with in class in Fall 2010. I know fully understand how to set up the problems and could easily pass those exams now.Almost like having your personal physics tutor (I think someone else already said this in an earlier review, but IT IS TRUE)!!!!!

it did it's job
The workbook was helpful for the first half of the Physics I course I took. It didn't really get into the end topics such as heat, simple harmonic motion, etc. Overall I would definitely suggest it for someone taking this course. I needed help in the beginning mostly with learning how to approach kinematics and force problems. This book did a good job of teaching me how to do them.

Decent but could be better
Nicely structured but not user friendly. The author tries to cram a lot in black and white print. Also the book only deals with statics, Kinematics and dynamics. Lastly I wish the author had included end of chapter problems to allow the user to practice the structure he is advocating

Distracts from College Level Physics Principles
I made the mistake of thinking that this book would be comparable to the Organic Chem as a Second Language which is EXCELLENT! I tried this book along with my physics textbook and it completely led me astray. I spent way too much time with this book which makes the processes more complex than necessary. The book also does this annoying "Now you try" with really stupid examples which just takes up pages. I am a fan of supplemental learning materials and this book is nothing but fluff. Skip it otherwise you'll spend valuable study time trying to get into it. This is not even close to the quality you'll get with David Klein's Orgo as a Second Language.

Excellent for Introductory Physics
There are only so many ways you can solve certain types of physics problems, and this book shows you all of them! It is perfect for both the people who just want to take a basic physics course AND those who want to continue into more complex, calculus-based physics. Lots of examples, thorough explanations, and very well organized. A must have for physics students!

I'm sad to say that this book is not really good ...
I'm sad to say that this book is not really good at all. I bought Orgo as a second language by a different author and it was amazing and I guess I had high expectations for this one too. It will show example problems and it will tell you to plug numbers in but I like to see examples worked out with the numbers in them because it helps me understand better. Everyone's different though.

Wow!
Wow! For that price, I really can't complain much. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in this product. Thank you again!

GOOD FOR BEGINNERS!!
use this book with any good text book like general physics by kane and sternheim. it is really worth buying.
