This item would get a 5 Star review were it not for the fact that the 5-pin cord that is shipped with this encoder does NOT match up to the pinout mapping on the encoder board itself. The 5-pin cord is wired as a straight ahead cord.This means that the SANWA directional switches must match exactly when the 5-pin cord is plugged into its keyed-connector on the encoder board. This particular encoder board has the pinouts as PIN1=VDD, PIN2=LEFT,PIN3=RIGHT,PIN4=DOWN,PIN5=UP.This is typically fine for when the encoder will be used in a 2-Player cabinet environment. But, if you are only needing to wire up a 1-Player/standalone joystick for use with PC(Windows), either your UP/DOWN positions or LEFT/RIGHT positions will be reversed.To quickly/cheaply fix this, simply swap pins 4 and 5 OR swap pins 2 and 3. This will allow your Windows Game Controller utility tester to see the correct directional information. To swap the pins, gently push down and out on each small micro-nib of the connector pin in one end of the connector. You can use a pin extractor for this, but something as simple and free as a pen tip or 2.0mm sized flat head tip should work just fine.
