Can you carbonate fresh juice directly?

You can carbonate anything you want to with any of these soda maker brands. I carbonate juices, soda's, energy drinks, etc. all the time. The trick is, when releasing, release the pressure slowly, a little at a time. When you see fizz at the top, stop releasing until it goes back down and continue releasing slowly until all pressure is gone. Then enjoy your fizzy drink.

Are the bottles themselves, not CO2 bottles, screw in or clamp in?

Great question! The carbonating bottles are to carbonate the water. The carbonating bottles screw in the front as well. And the Co2 bottles are not included in the package, those are bought separate, they can be purchased online or at your local Walmart or target store.

Yes, there is a cap. No, you cannot make only 12oz. There is a minimum/maximum fill line with not a lot of difference between them. That said, it is a great device; and the bottles are first-rate.
