I am not sure but I think It came from China. But on a side note, I hate it! Doesn't hold very much, flimsy and you can not hang anything on it unless you sue a hanger.

No to 2”. It will accommodate a smidge over 1 3/4 “

Q: Take two! what is the thickness of the metal bracket? not the width. it's probably around an eighth of an inch, but i'd like the actual value.

The thickness of the over-the-door valet metal bracket is approx 1/16th of an inch.

Q: Are there holes to hang the individual hangers in, or can they slide arounnd?

There are areas for individual hanging. I have not used that part of the hanger - I have just used the rod. However, because of your question I did hang a dress on the individual hanger - you can still slide the hanger if you so desire but it appeared to hold it in place. Don't know if that helps - someone else who has used those may help more.
