Helpful in studying

As a molecular technologist studying for the ASCP BOC exam for molecular technologist certification, this book serves as an excellent revision tool. Not only does it cover the basic concepts of molecular biology and techniques used in the lab, but also includes nice diagramatic representations, troubleshooting, advanced concepts, case studies and study questions for each section. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to take the ASCP certification exam or brush up on their knowledge of molecular biology in the clinical lab.

Loved this book, I had the previous editions for college for my CLS/MTL classes. The book explains a lot and in great detail. Bought it again because I rented the other one and wanted a hard copy to study for the board

People always refer to this book as the Buckingham Bible. If you are going for your CGMBS license, or your MB(ASCP) license, or your SMB(ASCP) license, the materials covered in this book will be crucial for passing your board exams.HOWEVER, I don't know if it was because I got a bad copy or something, but MY GOD THE AMOUNT OF ERRORS. I've found errors of every kind - spelling errors, grammar errors, wrong answers associated with wrong case study questions, answers to questions that didn't exist and vice versa, figures that showed the wrong information, and just straight up wrong facts. I spent about 40% of the time reading this book just making correction notes.If you're going to read things book, use it as a framework for what to focus on, and use another book or Google to help you double check the facts. The Coleman books are pretty good.tl:dr: topics covered are essential for passing your boards. The amount of errors in this book will make you pull your hair out. Definitely fact check.

This book is an author's best effort to collect disparate topics under one cover. Molecular diagnostics is a new field and there are really only two other books covering the area by co-authors Coleman and Tsongalis. Buckingham's is slightly better, as it appears to be written by one author, who co-ordinates all the content and the index. Coleman and Tsongalis serve only as editors to their books and the chapters, written by various authors, happen to represent the authors' specialties rather than contributing to a unified text. The indexes in the latter two books are sparse and do not coordinate with the content of the chapters. Nor do the figures, critical to the understanding of complicated techniques and assays, coordinate with the text of the chapters. Buckingham, however, does have a better index (not great) and her figures are text driven, rather than copied and pasted as available. A major drawback of Buckingham is the lack of proof reading, as it is full of errors and typos. Another issue is that the study questions might have written by somebody else, since some of the answers contradict or are not consistent with the material presented in the chapters. My worry as I study for the ASCP molecular biology exam is the errors which I am not aware of.

The book looked absolutely fine and new when I received it. When I started reading it, I found the text to be defective. On turning the pages I saw that most pages had this defect where alphabets had boxes instead and some pages like those shown above were unreadable. On looking carefully, I saw that most pages had this defect. I have asked for a replacement. Let’s see what they send…. This is simply cheating people. It’s an expensive book and this is not expected from Amazon

Delivered to me in great condition and the wait time was short!
