these really work! ... & some "rat elimination" intel;
we HAD a rat infestation, but are now living rat-free :-)very effective, even better than the original (metal paddle) Victor traps; Victor Metal Pedal Rat Trap (Pack of 12) ... and though, the original are very effective, these traps are a bit easier to set and seem more sensitive...| other "rat elimination" measures & intel to consider |• bait type matters!: we first tried peanut butter with no results on the rats, but it resulted in some very unfortunate collateral damage to other rodents... so, we switched to raw bacon, and, while the other rodents were disinterested, the rats can not resist... and, snap!so, if it is outdoors, do not use peanut butter, unless you want to eliminate chipmunks and squirrels, as well ... rather, try raw bacon...• neighborhood activism: get your neighbors involved, as the problem is very unlikely limited to your property... rats eat dog feces, compost, grille remains, bird seed... and just about anything, but, in our neighborhood, they were feeding (or are still feeding) at a neighbor that does not clean up after their dog and a neighbor composting... and, living at another neighbor that has let their garage and yard go to squaller…. thus, our yard was a traffic route between feeding and nesting. but, it is a city wide problem, as we have learned via nextdoor website for our city… so, neighbor involvement is a must, as you may eliminate them from living or feeding on your or adjacent property, but they will still be in the area and will likely return. if you do not know your neighbors and do not want to do the door-to-door thing, then join nextdoordotcom for your city and post something like "Unwanted Neighbors - Rats!" ... this is how we learned that it is a pervasive, city-wide problem and we were both receiving and disseminating information via this site… though i appreciate that most of us no longer “need” neighbors in this era, you do NEED your neighbors as allies in this war!• multi-front approach: utilize some additional artillery besides these Victor traps: we are using outdoor bait boxes with "Bromethalin" bait, so they will eat and go back to their nests and perish in a few days...…here are some links to good outdoor rat bait boxes and a good rat bait with Bromethalin (the ingredient claimed to be the best to poison rats):• Compact Rat Bait Station TWIN PACK (Bait Not Included)• Tomcat 0370910 Tier 1 Refillable Rat & Mouse Bait Station• MOTOMCO Tomcat Mouse and Rat Bromethalin Bait Chunx, 4-Poundadditionally, we had placed Peppermint Oil (which we still use to keep them at bay) in all the areas that were absolutely off-limits to rats and that was immediately effective. they stayed clear of areas where we distributed the Oil and began moving only in distant areas of the property, where we had the traps (and bait boxes) …so 2 👍 to Peppermint Oil; Pure Body Naturals Undiluted Essential Peppermint Oil, 4 fl. oz. OR Radha Beauty Peppermint Essential Oil 4 oz - 100% Pure & Natural Mentha Peperita Therapeutic Gradeif you want to keep it cheap and simple, then the original Victor traps can not be beat, especially in the economical 12 pack.and, though we are very pleased with both Victor traps, we needed the additional approaches above, due to the high rat volume and pervasiveness.lastly, best wishes to your soon rat-free life…. :-)Thank you.

These traps work well, we use them for both rats and mice
Old design still the best

STRONG
These are very strong! The rats in my barn are massive and don't get caught easily, but these worked very well. They're very easy to set as well, just make sure to keep your fingers clear of the bar and keep the platform stable when setting them.

Good, but used to be better.
Having been in pest control with a global company, I have set thousands of these exact traps. They are easier to set than the metal tab traps and the fast/slow sets are nice as is the large trigger pad. Do yourself a favor and set the trap while holding upside down. Gravity flips the trigger pad downward, letting you set it easily.Now to the "Used to be better". I had the bait tray come off of one, resulting in a trap that snapped unexpectedly and practically in my face! Two others had trigger pads that were very stiff which made them hard to set and they wanted to stick up at an odd angle when I did get them set.That said, Snap traps are the way to go for rodents. they die quickly with no suffering and no prey animals will ingest them and become poisoned. Rat poison is the pits, imo.This brand is the king of the Rodent eradication game and, although they may be slipping in quality, their snap traps have no equal.If you are handy, you can make a long box out of dimensional lumber that is tall enough for the snap bar to throw without hanging, and long enough to keep little inquisitive hands away and catch a good amount of rodents outdoors. Make the top removable but no so easily removable that a little kid can figure it out. Good for around chicken coops. Don't feel that you need to clean a bloody trap to make it ready for resetting. Rodents have no qualms about dead rodents having been on the trap. In fact I have watched (via camera) as one rat stood on a dead rat and drank its blood.Vampire Rats. You're welcome.Oh, and try a small piece of Slim Jim as bait. Everyone thinks Peanut Butter, but a Slim Jim always worked and you can eat the rest after you bait the traps! Wash your hands first though!

They work.
Certainly didn’t want to include any pictures of how well these old fashioned been around forever rat traps work, but they do. I’ve tried several “new and improved” traps by other manufacturers and discovered that often they did indeed trap the critter but did not make a clean and decisive kill. Quite disappointing and messy.I’ve found that these traps (and the ones for mice by same manufacturer) are available on Amazon for a very reasonable price and don’t even try to eject the victim and clean the trap but instead just dispose of the whole thing. Helps to have a plastic bag with moth crystals inside to put trap and connected victim in, especially if trash pickup is only once a week!

Product Manufacturing Has Changed
I have purchased these many times, since I only use once and throw away when I catch something. My last order showed manufacturing changes that make these latest traps less effective and/or unable to use. The copper U nails used to attach the main trapping mechanism to the wooden base were only half the length as previous traps I purchased resulting in the spring tension parts coming loose and pulling out while trying to set the trap. Not sure if this is a new manufacturing method or I just got a bad batch. Tried to contact Victor, but email not very user friendly and I couldn't call on a weekend.
