Great piece of kit
Great piece of equipment,Engine management light was on and vehicle kept going in limp mode , this found the fault straight away that pinpointed to a split in my Turbo intercooler pipe.Which I also purchased on here and changed myself . saved a fortune of not going to garage , who charge for diagnostic and then part and labour .

Great value and easy to use
Highly recommend this code reader and battery tester. It arrived in a neat case with all the cables needed and "idiot-proof" instructions. It is small enough to be able to keep in the glove box of the car at all times. The first time out, I used it to investigate an ABS light. It told me which side the faulty sensor was on and reset the fault without any fuss.Good sturdy build without a hefty price tag.Would be handy to check faults before taking to a mechanic to give an idea of problem or for taking along to view potential car purchases.

Works on a Merc
Works fine on my 2006 Mercedes CLK 220 for picking up the fault and clearing it and the EMS warning light. Based on the fault code returned I traced the issue to a subtly split turbo hose. Many of the other features do not seem to work on this particular vehicle but it did what I bought it for so all good.

Does not work well
There are a few issues with this product in my view.1) There is no adjustment for the screen brightness and it is difficult to read it outside, in daylight (and this is important because most of the time, you will probably want to test your battery outside, whilst it is fitted in your car).2) The lack of an internal battery means that as soon as you disconnect from your car battery, it dies. It would be better to be able to keep the current data 'live' for as long as you need it and that would require an internal power source.3) The Topdon website is not the easiest to find things on and to locate the PC software (to perform a software upgrade) was a faff.4) Once I had found the PC software and installed it, it would not 'see' my product. I contacted Topdon for help and I received a quick reply; but the issue is unresolved - so I cannot update it.5) It doesn't appear to be designed to test new car batteries and seems to provide erratic and unexpected readings. When I spoke to Bosch (who made my car battery), they sent me a data sheet that explains that battery testers of this kind do not produce the necessary load current to meet the requisite EN standard, or take into account other factors such as temperature compensation or battery cycling, for example.6) Have recently had a series of errors show-up on my dashboard (CTBA, ASB, low tyre pressure warnings and others) but the TOPDON does not see any of them. This product does not seem to work for any of the tasks I need it for. Such a shame, I really hoped it would be helpful.

Good bit of kit
Easy to operate, sturdy. Already paid for itself by saving me a garage diagnostic visit.

It told me no codes were stored
This is good quality and provides lots of information about the car ( A 2012 1.7 litre Diesel Vauxhall Astra). I bought this because I was getting a message to service the car soon, even though it had been serviced recently. Vauxhall wanted a lot of money to just read the code! I bought this and it told me there were no codes stored. I also had this problem with the first one I bought and returned. I took it to my local garage and they diagnosed it as a Glow Plug issue from the code they got. I don't know if this could not read the code because it is specific to Vauxhall or not. I'm assuming that if I had the engine management light lit on the dashboard then maybe it could have read the code. The sellers tried to help by asking me to send a video of what was happening and to let them know which code the garage saw so that they could investigate. Unfortunately, by this time the car was already being repaired at the garage and they could not remember which code they saw!

Not for diagnosing.
Considering the price, a really good and fairly basic device. Bear in mind it is not strictly a diagnostic tool. It's a trouble code reader, eraser and "live" data viewer.Easy to update by visiting Topdon website and downloading the latest firmware April 2022 is the one that was available at the time of writing this. My Win 10 did disply a warning about downloading the update tool.Long, flexible cable and useful l.e.d. light incorporated into the plug. My car's OBD port is buried deep under the dash! No reference in the instructions about replacing the battery for the light. Probably a button cell and accessible by removing the small screws on the plug?Edited to add that there are two CR1220 cells in the plug. Without encouraging anyone to replace them, when necessary, they are easy to access with care. Doing so will probably invalidate any warranty though.Recommended for slightly more than very basic use.
