BEST NIGHTLIGHT ON THE MARKET! A SAFETY ESSENTIAL for FALL PREVENTION!
Over-all, this is the best nightlight on the market & I would grab a few before it is discontinued.Due to various cost factors, numerous electronic devices have gone downhill in the past decade or so.The dumbing down of these items started in the great recession & con't. I have bought backups viaAmazon or Ebay of items that range from a clock-radio new from Italy to this.I have one of these LED nightlights in the bathroom that has worked well for the past few years.I recently bought a few more to add to the bedroom & also have 4 back-ups when/if they fail.So far none have failed....and work great. They have just the right amount of motion detection. I imagine it is a PIR method. While it does turn off thelight if the other lighting is high...that part is fairly insensitive...which is not a big deal since once we leave thebath or bedroom...nothing moves to activate. They fortunately do not seem to have false activations from the heating ducts which is important when you sleep.Since my wife hates extra LED lights on at night, these fit the bill. While they are not too bright when you are not night vision adapted, they can seem a bit bright after dark adaptation. As at least one person noted, you can place some sort of red {or neutral} light filter to lower or change the color.I have used multiple sheets of plastic car window tint to lower the glare from another LED clock radio & you cando likewise. They also happen to stock these at my local OSH, but are marked up another $4....so a two pack on Amazon savesyou at least $8.The time off varies a bit from one to another, so if you have two on either sides of your bedroom, they will go offat different times...but it seems to be under 1 minute each. You need to have at least two to cover bother ends of abedroom since it cannot "see" around corners of the bed.It is clear that the PIR sensor & circuit are most lightly to burn out before the LED bulb, but that will still give youyears of use. It lists using about 0.5 Watt, but it is unclear if this is with/without the LED on/off. Many householdIR receivers on TV's and devices usually draw around 0.25 to 2 watts even when "off".Even with the small current draw of the PIR sensor, this device is lightly cost-effective compared to either alwayson LEDs or even ones that detect light. Since our bathroom has no windows, a simple light sensing LED nightlightwould remain on constantly & will burn out/fade in time. While you still can use an old switch type nightlight along with a LED bulb....it would be Impossible to see the switchin total darkness. This type of Motion LED is quite a blessing to all...especially those who may be prone to fall in the dark orhave failing senses as with those of us who are getting older. These devices really should be required to be used in most senior settings...so definitely get somefor your impaired or impaired elderly persons. Since I have had back surgery, have neuropathy, andcannot tolerate a major fall, this device is critical to my well being! What is unclear to me, is why so few manufactures now offer such a critical device. This is an item that is likely as important as seat-belts for many...yet it is rarelyfound in most stores.Thank you Amer Tac for providing this essential item.

Possible production line change?
This is the second time I've ordered these, the first time was earlier this year. Both orders listed the same model number yet the first order was clearly a different product. The plastic shielding was pure white, giving off a nice white glow and the light stayed on for 60 seconds (the right amount of time I was looking for). This second set seems to have a slightly yellow shielding, giving off a slightly yellowish glow instead of the nice white of the first order. It's possible that this was 'old-stock' and the plastic became aged, but I don't think it is. I think this is more likely just a change in the production line because the product description on the new order says it stays on for 90 seconds instead of 60 seconds of the first order. I didn't notice this when I re-ordered so I guess it's on me, but I assumed it was the same product since it had the same exact model number. In any case, it still seems to be a good quality night-light. I'd say that the sensing-range listed in the product detail is accurate. I like this light because it's purely motion-sensing, not light sensing. My house stays dark during the day and I don't want the light to stay on all the time. These stay dark all day/night until something crosses its path. It's perfect for when I have guests that might need to be up at night looking for the kitchen or the bathroom when the house is dark. I took off 1-star due to the yellowish light issue of the new order.UPDATE 12/5/15:I just purchased 2 more of these lights and the new set didn't have the yellow discoloration mentioned above. I really do love these lights and wouldn't hesitate to buy more.UPDATE 1/9/16:I just looked at my account and realized that the two discolored lights I have were sold by "firefly buys" here on amazon's website, and the five perfect ones I have were sold by Amazon itself. FYI I'm purchasing a few more for my parents' home (from amazon).

5 years later- still going strong!
These are great for night lights and enough light in bathroom to see without needing the “big” light turned on. 5 years and counting and not one has failed! Would buy again and probably will if we need more/have larger home later.

This Amertec-Westek lights give off just the right amount for me for those middle of the night bathroom trips. I had tried "Maxxima MLN-55 LED Motion Activated Night Light with 5 LEDs" which is a great light but just too bright for me in the middle of the night - for me the Maxxima's are better in areas like a hallway where you might want more light. The sensor on the Amertac - Westek also seems a bit more sensitive than the Maxxima - that might be a good or bad thing depending on your layout. For me the light comes on if I'm just walking past the bathroom - but for someone else with a larger bathroom it might not be a problem - it might be sensitive enough to come on just when you entire the room. So I love the amount and type of light that it throws - took one star off as I don't think it looks quite as nice as the Maximma. If the silver strip were white it would probably "look better" by blending into the white receptacle better.

These unlike all the other cheap ones on amazon actually work...
I tried 3 different brands of GE all had issues (didn't even bother with the pile of Chinese fire starters on the site) ...all the GE's had issues either immediately or after a few hours. *These on the other hand ...have been working as advertised since installation a month ago with 0 issues.
